    2013 Base 2WD
Hey guys, new to site, just wanted to mention my experience with a vibration in my 2013 base, regular cab, 2wd, 4cyl truck. This truck has had an intermittent vibration from day one. Some days it did it, some days it didn't. Sometimes accelerating, sometimes slowing down. After this winter it got worse. Very noticeable from 50-65 mph speeding up and slowing down. When you put it in neutral at that speed it got noticeably worse, you can feel and hear it. Thought maybe it was the aggressive snow tires. Took them off, just as bad. My gut told me that it was the driveshaft so I took it out to check the u-joints. The rear one felt a little stiff in one direction but nothing that made me feel that would cause the vibration I am experiencing. The truck has 36,000 miles on it, I got it with 1. The drive shaft does have 4! weights on it. One large one on the back and three staggered, from large to small, on the front. Normally I don't think one piece driveshafts really need to be balanced but after seeing what Toyota did to this one, I was off to the driveshaft shop. 2 new u-joints and a balance. When I picked it up I asked if it needed to be balanced, the reply was "Oh Yeah, we had to put some weight on that one.." They said it was significantly out of balance and they welded a big weight on it. It is better now than the day I bought it. It is a one piece driveshaft so it was cheap to have that done, only $150. You guys with the 2-piece shafts, it will cost more but I highly recommend it. Just get it rebuilt and balanced by a reputable shop and I guarantee your vibration will be gone. Not having to deal with Toyota telling me "nothing is wrong" or "that's normal"....priceless.

This is interesting. I bought a new 2014 Regular Cab tacoma a couple months ago and I've had an inconsistent but annoying slight driveline vibration between 25 and 30 mph since the day I got it (bought it at 8 miles). Most of the solutions on this forum involve some tweak of the carrier bearing, which our regular cab trucks do not have. I know a very good driveline shop here in town and I might just take my truck by and see what they think. Thanks for the recommendation!
