I installed a factory remote starter in my girlfriend's 2015 Legacy, which seemed to be going fine. I got everything connected without incident and the next step was to start the car at least once with the key to resynchronize the system. But, the car won't crank and the accessories won't work. I checked all the connections but they were good.

I then put all the factory connections back and still nothing.

The only thing that happens is the car chimes when I put the key in with the door open, so I know it is 'seeing' the key at least.

Any ideas? I'm screwed now because the car won't start and its going to cost megabucks to get it towed and have Subaru look at it.

This is one of the problems with todays tech in cars. I think that your gonna have to get it towed and then I would let a pro install the starter. They usually recommend that you have a pro install anyway.
only other idea before getting it towed is to see about a subaru forum and maybe someone will have a better idea

    goodluck anyways!

Thanks guys. I'm having it towed now. To add to the fun, it won't come out of park, there is no manual override for that like there used to be, and to top it all off, the tow hook that screws into the bumper is now an OPTION. FML. We had to find someone else with a Subaru to borrow the hook because of course parts was closed for the weekend.

In the older Subaru remote start systems, the ECU had to be programmed to acknowledge the remote start, but that meant it just wouldn't work until you had a dealer do that...shouldn't cause the issues you see here. Unless they changed the system significantly.

"Seeing the key" doesn't tell you much. There's just a tiny button switch in the cylinder, so a paperclip could cause it to chime.

subaruoutback.org is great. An Outback is a Legacy on stilts, so the systems are probably the same and I'm sure someone there will know something.
