So I sold my old retrofits to a member on here and FedEx damaged them in transit. I had insurance on them thankfully, but they're asking for receipts and prices for the headlights which is a problem because they were custom built... by me. And I'm not a business.

I can get receipts for the retrofit parts themselves, but it's not like I can price out the donor headlights that came with my truck, or the hours I spend cutting/painting/aiming/assembling into a nice little invoice.

Has anyone else come across this particular problem? How should I handle it?

i have never had them ask for receipts before. were they insured for some crazy amount? i would just go to ebay or Amazon and find some of the same lights and print out a copy and give that to them. make sure its a high price lol

Insured for $500. Can't really find similar lights online, they were custom made to order. Good idea though. I guess I'll see if they will refund the guy who bought them from me.

Do you have receipts for the products used to make the retrofits? Just send them all of those if you do since you did technically ship him all of those parts, just assembled haha

Honestly, I try to avoid FedEx at all costs.... They're the only company that ships damaged boxes every time without fail. UPS has only done it to me once, and USPS has always been good to me.

They will usually only pay the shipper, did you package them or did you have someone else package them?

I made, packaged, and brought them into FedEx to ship myself. And just paying for the components is not going to be good enough. These things took hours to make and assemble, my time isn't free. If they just pay me for the components it's either not going to be enough to refund the guy, or just enough to cover the parts and I would have to retrofit another set of lights for free.

Not to mention they technically only fucked up one of the lights because they had to be shipped in 2 different packages, so who knows what kind of BS they're going to try and pull that way.

Usually you can provide them with receipts, and make an invoice that accounts for your labor. You sometimes need to specify your are filing for the replacement cost of the light as a whole, not just the individual parts. Also was that insured for $500 a package or for the total shipment?

Oh and did you have enough packaging on all sides, they like a minimum of 2" of packing material.

It was one shipment valued at $500, but apparently they broke it up by package without me knowing. So I don't know what they're going to do about that.

It wasn't 2" of material on each side, but I took it to the store and they looked it over. If they accepted it and sold me insurance on it, I would expect they deemed it worthy.

I honestly don't understand how they snapped off that tab anyway, it wasn't even touching the outside. Plus it was sitting OUTSIDE the interior packaging when it arrived. Seems like someone opened it up and snapped it off and placed it on top of the bubble wrap.
