    hey guys,

just got my 2.5" KING kit (front and rear) plus a 1.5" AAL in the rear. running some 285/70 now. while im happy with it for the most part, any other of you modified guys notice the rear quite firm after the suspension work?

what are you guys doing to remedy it? basically the nasty freeways in California, leaves my rear kickin me in the ass during my entire commute.

a buddy of mine removed a leaf, he lost a little height with it, but he said it rides nice. called a local shop and they mentioned something about the rear tire psi. dropping it down to as low as 28psi would soften the ride up a little bit... can anyone confirm that?

trying to think of what i could really to do get that back squishy.. not willing to run blocks instead of AAL. and while tempted, i dont want to go as far as a roll cage and a few spare tires ;)

Put some weight in the bed.

    Especially if it rains.

AAL's will definitely stiffen the ride. Given you went the expense of Kings on the front, I would consider spring pack replacement. I went with the Deavers' on the rear and could not be happier with the ride and height.

whoops, by KING kit, i mean front and rear shock replacements. from my research, i would not have gotten the height in the rear with the shocks alone. am i mistaken? should i drop the AAL's? i just dont want the truck to be all beefy in the front and low in the rear.

Interesting thanks. i saw their note about 'removal of the overload spring'. thats exactly what my buddy did to his to make it very soft. but man, $600 bucks for a leaf kit! haha.

Before you blow $600 on a new leaf pack, if you literally just installed the AAL, get 100lbs of weight in the back and drive around with it for a bit. The AAL will break in some.

damn ok. might need to consider a whole new leaf kit like Deaver/OME instead of the AAL. i mean the ride isnt TERRIBLE. but a little more comfort would be nice. after all, this tacoma is my daily.

yea, the shocks, AAL have been on for 4 days now. quite a few people told me they take some time to break in, but it just seems TOO firm.... like there isnt much room for it to soften up.

OP, time for rear plate bumper and armor plates :) Did you remove the overload leaf when you added the AAL?

did you have the aal installed with the overload leaf? If so, that could be the reason. I had to drive around with a few sand bags till they got softer. now it's like butter. ( with No overload spring) I also lowered tire pressure to 32psi.

Progressive aal like icon or wheelers will yield a smoother ride

I did the aal on my 96 4x and she bucked like a horse on the freeway, I put a camper shell on and it helped a lot. My 13 has a shell but I haven't done the leafs yet, it rides so smooth and I don't want to loose that yet.
