I have 2 labs from Rocky Mountain Lab Rescue. Great bunch of folks, including the people who run the rescue and the foster families who take care of the dogs waiting for adoption. My experience was that they will work with you to help you find a dog that is the right age, size, and temperment for your needs.

Due East of you about a half hour in Peyton is National Mill Dog Rescue. They specialize in rescuing dogs form puppy mills which means that they have mostly pure breeds. Last time we were there they had TONS of labs of all ages and they were some great looking dogs. I highly recommend making the drive to check out what they have. They also have a website to get an idea but seeing them in person is the best way to see what they have since they get more daily... sadly. We made two trips down all the way from the Fort Collins area and it was worth the 12hrs of driving. The night before we got there the first time they took in 72 more dogs to give you an idea how many puppies & dogs they have there. Don't buy dogs. Rescue. Spread the word that buying dogs helps to fuel puppy mills and there's WAY too many dogs out there that need homes to pay for a puppy and perpetuate the problem.
