Hearing protection recommendations

Looking for some recommendations on new hearing protection. Looking around $50. Lately I've been training new shooters so I would like an electronic set, just not sure what will be best for my money.

 

I use the RADIANS when I am at the Range and in the Duck Blind and the work Great. I bought them from CABELAS and I think they are in the price range your looking for. I also have a set of DILLONS and they are just as good. The only difference is the RADIANS are MAX 4 Camo.

depending what I am shooting I may use one or both.

 

Suppressor. You may need to up your budget a wee bit though.

In all seriousness though I've got a few and have had really good luck with the ~$20 eBay specials. Some suck and some are decent so pay attention to the reviews and read what people are saying since they're all cheap Chinese imports. I've got Peltors too and the quality is good and there's no worries about if you get a good pair or not like the eBay cheap-o's so you get what you pay for in terms of consistency with Peltor. Some situations I also like the Surefire plugs and they're cheap. It's nice to have options so if you're budget is $50 maybe score a set of eBay electric ear pro and then a pair of Surefire plugs and that way you can see what you like when and where. Down the road when the budget allows you'll have a better idea of what you want to spend your money on & what you're looking for and why. The other ones will go in a range bag and you'll still get lots of use out of them either yourself or loaning out to someone else you shoot with. You'll get your twenty bucks out of them for sure.

 

I have the surefire plugs now. I'd love a suppressor but I live in the Commiewealth.

 

I just use the foamies ... better ratings than most regular ear muffs, and certainly better than the electronics.


That being said, in an indoor range I'll usually double up foamies and muffs.

 

What will you be training with? Pistol, AR? If AR or similar type of rifle, I would recommend some low profile ones like the HL L1 or the ones StZu linked so your cheek weld is not affected.

 

Handguns, 15-22, AKs.

I wear these with foam plugs underneath, and turn the volume all the way up.

 

I have the Howard Leight L1's, and love them. They were only $16.

Yea if you have the dough, those Impacts are great, and around $50. If you want to stay budget, I say get the Howard Leight L1's. Both have a slim profile, have good db ratings, and will not affect cheek weld.

Just to be safe, I wear both foam ear plugs AND the L1's.

 

I have a pair of the Howard Leight Impacts mentioned above and I like them for the low profile, especially clay target shooting.

But, I don't know if mine are defective because the volume control seems to have no affect. Turn the switch on and you can hear everything within a quarter mile. Almost drives me nutty if there's a fan or something running in the background.

I did the custom mold kit from Radians. Super comfortable and about as much attenuation as you can get. I've got a cheap pair of electronic muffs and the suck, they don't have very good attenuation when they are off and sometimes are a little late shutting the sound off when they are on. They are Caldwell brand.

 

Howard Leight Impact's for me. Then I use cheap foam plugs under them. Even suppressed I wear them. No reason not to IMO.

 

HL Impacts here too. I've been happy with them.

 

I also have a pair of the Caldwells and I agree, they seem to be a split second slow with the automatic attenuation sometimes. I most always use foam plugs together with this headset just to be sure.

 

Yea I don't trust the electronic ones, so I stay basic with the HL L1's.
