Was in the dealer today and saw that the rear bumpers on TRD Sports are actually the same as the chrome ones, only painted. I always thought the sports and such had the same plastic type bumpers front and rear. Is this a change, or have they always been metal?

Idk mine came with plastic covered one. I got plate bumpers now. Go with the cheapest ones you'll take them off soon enough.

The rear bumpers have always been metal. Sports come with color match. Off road with chrome. Sports also have color matched door knobs, mirrors, and front bumper.
