I had a chance to play with the stock HU that will come with my truck, which arrives this week.

My plan was to install a Pioneer AVIC 8000NES. However, that would be phase 2 of the upgrade. Everything else, is phase 1 and will be installed in a few weeks.

    My concern is functionality loss.

There is a whole page of Maintenance itesm on the stock HU. I presume this disaplay will not port to the aftermarket. So even though these items are basic calendar and mileage timers, do I lose this as well as anything else the Tacoma OS displays on the stock HU?

Not to mention the potential loss or partial loss of steering wheel controls. I know there are some adapters, but 100% functionality doesn't seem the norm.

Nothing wrong with keeping the stock HU if its done right. That means using something like JL Clean Sweep for line level conversion.

As far as functionality with steering wheel controls and after market head units, my ASWC-1 works perfectly with my AVIC 8000NEX and I have never even updated the firmware on the ASWC-1.

Your plan is sound. Replace everything else and do the head unit later if you want and with the benefit of using a newer model they usually are released towards the end of winter after CES.

    Thanks. Very helpful.

I have spoken ro Mr Marv on a couple of occasions. He is very helpful & knowledgeable. Luckily, I am local so he will be doing my install.

    Phase 1:
    Sound Deadening
    Wiring
    Hybrid Audio Legatia SE Components
    Hybrid Audio Claris 10" Sub
    Apine PDX V-9
    Enclosure
    Helix DST Processor

    Phase 2
    Pioneer AVIC-8000NES (Maybe)

    Phase 3:
    some rearfill 5" speakers

Very excited to hear it when completed.
