I just got a tacoma and now shopping for a cover. When i looked at the bed of my truck again, i realized the previous owner probably had one and installed rails for what ever cover he had. does anyone know what cover this is for?
I figured i can just order the Tri-Fold one i want and remove the rails.
Can anyone recommend good covers that aren't too expensive?
    Thank you!!

Those rails just below the top of the box are the factory tie down rails, every 2nd gen has them.

yes the cover will still work, most covers actually use these rails like the bakflip HD i have on my truck.

The difference in price is usually the material, soft covers will be cheaper, hard covers will be more expensive. The frame of the covers can be different material also.

I had a an Advantage Torzo top (soft trifold) for about 7 years & loved it. After 7 years of being outside for 100% of the time, the vinyl started developing cracks/holes. Tried replacing the cover only but it was a bitch to install - so I gave it to someone else.

Fold-A-Cover G4 Elite. Got one and love it. It mounts in the factory track system and has car door style locks. The Bak Flip and other models use a cord to unlock them and with a coat hanger you can easily defeat the locks...

The biggest choice to make is do you want absolute security or just protection from weather. If security isn't a big issue go with a soft cover. IMO the roll up soft covers are better than the trifolds because you don't lose any bed space at all. I personally have the access literider and it's great.

If you are worried about security go with a hard cover. Extang solid fold, Bakflip, or something similar.

The Access cover is relatively simple to replace, mine had a hole in it and for about $50 Access sent me a new vinyl piece to replace the old one. About an hour or two total work in the drive way.
