Hello all, just wondering if anyone has run into this problem before. When
I drive from a stop my brake light go on for a few secs . Had the rear brake
pads changed awhile ago , was wondering if the parking brake might have
been done wrong. I can't remember if it happened before that but there's a good chance it dd. I know there is a switch connected to the parking brake
under the dash. It used to be all I had to do was jiggle the handle and push it in and it would go off. Now that looks like that is not helping. If it were
a brake part you think it would happen when I step on the brakes , but the light does not come on then.

also the hinge bracket under the truck is famous for getting rusty and not working right, I suspect this is your problem and it isn't working right and returning to the correct position

You can fool with the e brake adjustments but be sure to keep the brake fluid at or just above the full mark. Anything lower on a Taco tends to trigger the light. This usually first starts to happen on acceleration/deceleration.

yes, good catch. if you are saying the low brake fluid light is on then you just need to top off your master cylinder fluid level. if you are saying the brake light itself is what is on then check the e-brake linkages and it might be a sticking caliper as well

Tacoma is stock and staying that way, Pickup is TBA as of now.
Mine was doing that, turned out it was a little low on brake fluid, topped it off and it hasn't come on since. Start there if I was you.

Ok , the brake fluid is ok, I went under and looked at where the adjustment
is, looked ok no rust , so I sprayed everything with wd anyway. The brake handle
is suppose to click between 12-18 clicks when you pull it up, it was at 15.
That would mean that it's set right. My only guess is that there's suppose to be a switch under the steering column , I have no idea what that switch does, its either sticking or going bad. When I jam down on the handle it seems to go away, but it could also be the sensor by the brake fluid, it seems to go on more when I go around a curve , usually happens right after I start it ( warm or cold) and drive it . Very strange!

if pushing the e-brake handle makes it go off then the linkage is not fully returning because of a weak spring or the cable is too lose and needs adjusting. it should have slack in it but not too much slack, just not taught. the cable should be holding the e-brake handle fully in all the way without tension on the cable and it sounds like its not.

also the reservoir light will go off if its just 1/4" low, it doesnt take much at all so make sure its full all the way up to the seam line or just above it

any update on this? did you find the problem?

just had this happen to me and I thought for sure the e-brake was in all the way but I reset it and it went in an extra 2 inches and the light went off.

now during this time the e-brake wasn't dragging or anything that I could tell so I think it just wasn't seating all the way down in the off position

just putting that out there that the e-brake cant act tricky if its not turned just right and the handle trigger is used just right, I think on mine I just released the trigger too soon the first time
