Last year my boyfriend purchased a 2002 toyota tacoma and this summer he completely remodeled a boat and next year will be working on a sail boat. As a result, he mentioned wanting more power in his truck for when he's towing one of the boats. With christmas approaching i thought of getting him something relatively reasonable in price. He is extremely mechanically handy and doesnt believe in ever paying a mechanic to do something he can do. He mentioned something with headers but i cant recall exactly what he said. I'll be honest i know very little about cars which is why i joined this forum. So any advice or recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

not much you can do really but throw a whole bunch of money into turbos and headers but its not going to change much except in your wallet.

if its a 4 cylinder then he needs to swap it out for a 6 cylinder and then he will be fine, if he has the v6 then there is nothing he can do that will make much difference but there is no end to things he can spend money on to make tiny small differences that don't amount to much at all.

to be straight up honest if the boats have any size to them then he needs to buy a beat up old v8 truck for towing the boats and use the Tacoma for his daily driver

Your best bet is to just ask him what he wants rather than trying to surprise him. Good quality tools are always welcome in Man's world.

look, buying a guy tools is like a guy buying you a dress, we don't know the right thing to buy and even though whoever gets the gift will act like its the perfect most wonderful gift ever, it will be thrown in a closet and never seen again

if you want to get him stuff for his truck then buy him a gift card at http://www.rockauto.com/ and let him select whatever he wants or needs for his truck.

but really, you girls way overthink this stuff, guys are not sentimental and we don't keep track of anniversaries and all that, its just not how our brains work or think, so if you truly want to make him happy and give him a great gift he will love, just give him a romantic night of great sex with no relationship discussions or talking about family or kids and just focus on each other and it will be the most perfect gift ever.

    just my 2 cents

Tacoma is stock and staying that way, Pickup is TBA as of now.
TRD supercharger for a V6 if you got the money, he could probably install it himself the way the OP made it sound.
