Another thing to make sure is if you have the shocks on the right sides there is a passanger and a driver side shock one of them is a half a inch bigger. But if that's not the case it's your springa they look way past gone.

    I don't think you are 100% correct.

Yes extended travel is what you need if you lift the truck so you don't over extend and bottom out the stock length shocks.

However when you get new leaf packs or aal you don't get a longer bump stop. Your stuffed or compressed measurement should be the same regardless of stock leaf pack, dead leaf pack, or heavy duty leaf pack. And as long as the compressed length of the shocks works with that then it's all good (assuming the shocks are also long enough.

He does need to do something about the leaf packs though.

I've never heard that before. Is that a 1st gen thing?

Ya i just saw a buddy at a metal shop who makes AAL and leaf springs and confirmed mine are toast. Didnt want to fork out that much money for a complete new set, but i also dont want to put a band-aid AAL in that will only last a year...or two.

5100s will fit on a stock truck.

    Down travel breaks shocks.

If extended travel shocks are on a stock height vehicle, then it will have less up travel but more down travel.

OP replace the rear springs. A AAL will help, but it will not solve your problem long term.

I just put 5100's on my 98 4x4 6 Lug. Realized I put the wrong shock on the wrong side but I do see issues with limited up travel.

What is the safest best bet to jack up 1 rear tire into the bump stop so I can take some measurements? Also, I have a brand new basic stock leaf pack in the back, If I add a 1.5" AAL do the yota's tipically look pathetic and I will need to raise the front?

Don't know for sure but they look like some for a lifted truck maybe 1-3", but I just looked t all pro's site and they say from 0-2.5" lift so maybe your springs are toast. If you go with an AAL, get the longest one you can, and start saving up for some from Wheeler's maybe. I put a Daystar lift on mine and just used the AAL ditched the puck for some 882s and Billies up front on mine and the truck came with homemade lifted shackles-( another gift from the previous owner, they just keep coming....)
