Three children and two adults were killed when a North Texas family's vehicle veered off the interstate and rolled over during a family trip to Disney World, Louisiana state police said.
The family's 2005 Chevrolet Tahoe was driven by 16-year-old Andrew Hardman, who likely fell asleep at the wheel just before 11 p.m. Wednesday on Interstate 20 near Calhoun, state police spokesman Michael Reichardt said.
"Our heartfelt condolences go out to all of the people affected by this tragic crash," said Colonel Mike Edmonson, Louisiana State Police Superintendent.
Troopers said the teen drove left into the median and then tried to turn back onto the highway but overcorrected, causing the SUV to roll over. The driver, who Reichardt said was wearing his seatbelt, was taken to a nearby hospital with minor injuries.

Two other passengers who wore seat belts suffered moderate injuries. Authorities said six people who weren't wearing seat belts were ejected from the vehicle.
"I cannot stress enough the importance of wearing a seat belt anytime you are in a vehicle," Edmonson said.
Authorities identified the adults killed as Michael and Trudi Hardman of Terrell. Michael was a second-grade teacher at John F. Kennedy Elementary School and Trudi, 41, was a kindergarten teacher at Willis Point Primary School, district officials said.
The children killed were Kaci Hardman, 4, Adam Hardman, 7, and Dakota Watson, 15.
Three children survived the crash, the 16-year-old driver, Andrew, as well as Aaron Hardman and Hunter Watson, 12.
Michael and Trudi Hardman were parents to all six children. Dallas County Sheriff's Deputy Darrell Watson is the father of Dakota and Hunter Watson.
    The crash remains under investigation.
"Our hearts ache as we try to wrap our minds around the tragic loss of our beautiful, blended family," said DJ Hart, step brother of Trudi Hardman.
"The loving family of 8 was looking forward to spending Thanksgiving break at the happiest place on earth: Walt Disney World. En route, God had other plans as 5 members of our family are now enjoying an even happier place," he said.
The family has set up a account to help the family pay with burials, medical expenses and to prepare for the future for the three surviving children.

How is it people still aren't wearing seat belts?

Maybe the seatbelts were off to facilitate comfortable sleep positions. Not wise to let a 16 year old drive in that environment either, but that isn't the point.

Can't imagine life for the kid right now, or for the rest of it. Really a shame.
