1995 Toyota Tacoma Engine

I am looking at a $1000 repair cost for my truck, 1995 Tacoma, so I am exploring the option of buying a new/used engine and having it put in.

Does anyone have some good resources for purchasing engines? Also, do I have to buy specifically a 1995 Tacoma engine or is there a year range that I can look at?

1995.5-2004 is the 1st gen model year so I assume the engines would be able to be swaped out.

 

Even 96 to 02 4runners have it.

But I think the ECUs and definitely the MAF will be different from 95.5-97 to those from 98-04.

i ordered an engine for mine from jdm for 1400 with 40 thousand miles on it and free shipping. i had to switch my intake and oil pan to the new engine other than that it worked great

 

I paid I think 1100-1200 for a 2.7 8 port from a salvage yard. For about the same cost I could have gotten a rebuild off of ebay.
