    Hello all
I was curious on opinions as to whether I should switch to synthetic oil or if it's to late. I drive a 2004 v6 Trd and she has 116,000 miles on her
I've heard that switching to synthetic in a high milage vehicle can cause more problems then it remedies
Just curious what you guys think
    Thanks in advance for replies
    Adam

I've heard the same thing. I've read that it will negatively affect your head gaskets at that high of a mileage, but many in here with more knowledge than myself will fervently disagree.

Tacoma is stock and staying that way, Pickup is TBA as of now.
It wont hurt anything, most all the seals on these newer engines are O-rings anyway, they are much better than the old cork gaskets of old.

The general thought is that the old seals and gaskets will leak more with synthetic. When synthetic first came out it didn't have the same conditioners and additives and that was the result.

Today it's not the case, but I don't know if I'd bother to switch on that old an engine. I'd probably stay with dino and keep the oil fresh and changed regularly.

    that's pure bullshit

switching to synthetic is the best thing you can ever do for your vehicle.

the ONLY time synthetic isn't a good idea is for the very first 25k miles (initial break in) on a brand new or rebuilt engine. that is so it has time to break in with regular ordinary dino oil that allows more heat and friction to cause them to wear into each other as a perfect sealed symmetrical unit

I switched to synthetic when I got my 3rz with 216k on it. have 241k on it now and still uses no oil. I suspect it will last longer by using synth in its golden years. I sure do like not worrying about oil changes as often - I went 3k on the first rotation then 7k intervals since then.
