What is CarPlay?????

Happy Thanksgiving all!

I am looking into getting a nav and dvd, etc. system to replace my factory model in my 2014 Tacoma Sport. I had been looking into a "2014 New Arrival CASKA Car DVD player GPS Navigation Runs on the WinCE 6.0 OS/ lane assist/ voice guidance/3D for Toyota Tacoma" I came across on AliExpress? I asked a lot of questions and answers were scketchy! Anyone heard of Caska?

Anyway, I browsing around more, I came across CarPlay and hear that Pioneer makes a aftermarket unit. Can someone possibly explain how this works and if this is something I should look into? It sounds awesome, but I don't know if I will lose steering wheel controls and/or backup camera.

Caska is probably some crappy knockoff brand making cheap OEM style head units with cheap electronics. I would stick to big brand radio names or do an iPad in dash. CarPlay tries to mirror your iDevices interface onto your radio screen but it's not as fluid as an actual iDevice. The interface is somewhat laggy and does not offer all of the features that one might want out of their in dash multimedia receiver. Using an actual iPad lets you use all apps, not just the popular CarPlay integrated ones. I like having Netflix for my passengers on long drives and YouTube for my passengers to play songs or videos on. I believe CarPlay does not let you use Netflix or YouTube. The only thing I have not tried to retain with an iPad so far is the backup camera, but I know of ways to do it.
