Prepping your Tacoma for Snow

Well, I'm a little confused. We are prepping for Snow/winter and winter and a number of posters are storing water in their trucks? How do you keep it from freezing ??? With the Vodka ???

 

Don't get me wrong, I'm in agreement with storing vodka just about anywhere (I mean anywhere)... but for God's sake don't waste it on the windshield!

But to your point, I just added Absolute Citron, a rock glass and an Ice pick to the winter prep list. Damm good call on your paaahht!

 

your friend is full of shit! i lived in ottawa last winter and my tacoma and ford with dick cepek and cooper tires respectively both required 4x4 during nasty conditions! it's typical ottawa my truck is awesome and so are my shitty goodyear tires bs!! lolz

 

When you live in TX it always comes as a surprise. One minute you're whipping off bugs and the next it's ice.

It was 60* and i was mowing green grass today....while there currently is a winter weather warning in effect for 3-6" of snow. Appalachia is crazy.

 

Indeed it is. I bought some Jr. Johnson moonshine last night. God bless Appalachia.

 

I park my Truck in the garage, and keep it in a 2/3 full 2liter bottle...and keep my fingers crossed in the event of a -24* day, if something were to happen it may happen on the way to work and not on the way back.

 

But why store frozen Water? After all you can have unlimited Vodka Snow cones !!

 

I just warm up the finger/thumb that rotate the switch that throws it into 4WD High. I might do it on my way home from work today, in fact!

 

I'm sold, vodka will be in my truck this year...maybe moonshine...or bourbon...now I'm just thinking about drinking in the snow!

 

I don't have that snow problem here, if I did 4x4 would be the answer.

 

My winter kit is just the basics:

Snow tires
Winter floor mats (recently picked up Weathertech digital floor liners from another member)
Collapsible shovel (have used several times to help dig out stranded drivers)
Tow strap (has come in use pulling another vehicle out of ditch)
Booster Cables
Bottle of washer fluid
Snow Brush
First aid kit w/ foil blanket
Granola Bars
Cell Phone Charger


I don't add extra weight. With snow tires, I'm good most of the time for traction. When the going gets rough, I have a switch that engages the front wheels.

 

I'm so happy I brought vodka to the party. Next we can discuss what kind.

 

First thing that crossed my mind with all the water comments, wondered if I had missed a key component of thermodynamics

My winter prep list is ever evolving, so far: 2x 40kg sandbags over the rear axle, spare windshield wipers in the bed (had one blade go to sh*t on me already this month) snowbrush, warm blanket and spare hoodie in the cab, full first aid kit, hatchet, collapsible shovel, recovery strap and shackles, and spare washer fluid.

Most important component though, hot coffee before each commute, it's not my driving I'm worried about so much as the local rig rockets.

 

I wonder how much vodka I would have to add to a bottle of water to keep it from freezing; and at that point is it still hydrating or is the alcohol content too high?
