I just got a great deal on some Lt 265/75/16 michelin ms2 for 198per tire. Of course there is all of the extra cost for mounting. When she went through the added cost, alignment was slipped in. I told them to hold off on the alignment since I don't remember that being a necessary service last time I purchased a set. She said it may void the 70000 warranty. Is that bs? After giving it more thought, 265/75/16 is not the recommended size. Is that also grounds to void the warranty? I like the look of the size and wanted the lt rating so it wouldn't make a difference anyway. I just don't want to pay for the alignment if I don't have to. Does anyone have experience with this?

not having proper alignment could be reason to void a warranty as it causes unnecessary wear on parts of the tire. had a new set of tires on my first car and they were showing wear on the inner edges after a mere 5k miles of owning it. turns out it had a bad alignment and dealer wouldn't replace them under warranty.

Now in your case, a full blown alignment seems unnecessary unless you've noticed problems. Try taking it to one of the dealers that does free alignment checks (we have a few toyota dealers here that do). keep that paperwork showing it is good and it should be sufficient for any warranty claims.

My Goodyear dealer gives a free alignment check with a set of new tires plus lifetime balance and rotation.

Now that I think about it, when we bought my wife's new tires last year, the dealer did a free check as well. Didn't need the alignment, but the check was still good to have.
