Hi, mine reboots often when using bluetooth, especially right after phone calls.

Excellent idea to film it. I will try to get it recorded on video too so that I don't have to sit around in the dealership on Monday trying to recreate the problem.

The quote from the dealership is that they have to see it because they aren't willing to "just throw parts at something."

Still, I know that they're aware of this problem so I think that they're a little "full of it." There's plenty of people complaining about this reboot issue. I can't help but think they want to make the fix so inconvenient that people will just give up on trying. Good customer service really shouldn't make it a point to "waste your time" so that you go away out of frustration.

If it's not a faulty part and a bad line of computer code, it worries me that it will never be fixed because they'll just never get around to it.

If I ever buy another Tacoma, I might very well get no radio in it at all and have one installed by a third party.

I'd talk to the service manager by email and point him to the video or threads of other people having the same issue. At least that way he can see more evidence than just what you're reporting.

I found that the best way to recreate the issue was to,
    1. Connect and play music via Bluetooth
    2. Then navigate to other apps like the Navigation

Having the Bluetooth connection streaming music seemed to stress the system so that any other commands then caused the reboot to occur.

Once they replaced that extension module, not a single problem with the unit. Its too bad Toyota isn't putting this together for their dealerships. I'm sure they've replaced a few perfectly fine head units when the extension module was the issue all along.

Dropped mine off and they were able to duplicate the rebooting issue. Toyota instructed the dealership to update my system to 3.2? I believe. Supposed to increase Bluetooth signal strength? It has helped a little. I still get reboots but approximately 50% less. No where near acceptable to me of course. I will be contacting them today and mentioning the extension module. I'll update as things happen.

Called dealership yesterday and was told that Toyota wanted them to change the extension module next if the software update did not do the job.

Howdy, first post, bummer it's in this thread instead of one where I tell you about all the cool shit I've done to my 2013 Tacoma.

So, same or similar problem with the Entune radio/thingy/piece of garbage. For about 3 months, the thing worked brilliantly when playing music via USB from my iphone. Now, it'll play songs for a little while, then drop the song and show the "Loading" graphic. I have to restart the car for this to go away... Blech.

This has got to be a software issue, and shame on Toyota for not addressing it.

Driving my new truck 1200 miles home, and several times, the system froze and had to reboot. Usually when starting the morning drive. Like every 5 minutes, buttons would not respond, and the unit would be stuck doing whatever it was doing, whatever music it was playing, etc. Usually freezing coincided with using navigation. Sometimes had to turn truck off, other times, could hold the power button down for 5-10 seconds and system rebooted. I would say this happened bout 8 times over two days. Again, usually at start of day. Had to wait about 30 min each time for the unit to work as it should.

Tried to determine which entune version I am running, but the descriptions listed for 2012-2013 versions dont get to same screen on mine. In fact, cannot find entune version anywhere in settings or otherwise.

Anyone know where to figure out what entune version is running on a 2014?

Anyone else having freezing problems with 2014 Entune Premium (non JBL)?

Cant tell, but seems to correspond to ipod use.

    Thank you

    Update:

A little over a month ago the dealer finally replaced the "extension module" on my radio unit. I have had no issues since then(knock on wood). I have used my radio many times, especially with bluetooth and I haven't had another issue thus far.

I did write a long and extensive letter to the service department manager explaining my situation. I carefully explained the issue I'd been having with the radio rebooting since purchasing my truck. I pointed out that they already replaced the radio head unit which didn't solve the problem. I also pointed him to a link on YouTube someone posted here where they filmed their radio randomly rebooting. I also pointed them to the URL of this thread to show that there's been a huge community with many users having the very same problem.

He agreed to go ahead and replace the extension module, and admitted that they recently did the same thing for someone else with the same problem.

Getting this job done was not automatic. They objected the whole way until I decided to write the service manager directly. I carefully explained to him that I would bring it up when I would bring my car for service and they would conveniently "forget about it."

In my letter to the service manager I very bluntly stated that I wanted them to ask Toyota for the go ahead to do this. I got notice in email almost immediately that he agreed to go ahead and do it.

I was very polite about the whole matter in the email. I also talked about how I am a long time toyota customer for about 25 years. This is my third toyota truck that I've bought new in that span of time.

I was told previously that the extension module is quite an expensive part. It doesn't matter when the car is under warranty. I purchased the "top of the line" radio and I expect it to work.

So they finally did the upstanding thing and the issue is "seemingly" fixed. This will be the first place I come to notify folks if I have yet another reoccurrence. I'm optimistic that it is fixed. I was told by another user here that this same part replacement fixed his problem as well.

It's really important to go to the top of the service department with a compelling case to get this done.

In many ways, I consider my truck a nearly perfect machine. Now that the radio is "seemingly" fixed, I am quite pleased.

Don't take no for an answer. Be as thorough as possible in making your case. I really think that starting to send "very clear emails" helps because you have a provable track record there that states your case and that you're trying to get something decisively done about it.

    Good luck to you guys.

Last thing dealer told me was to try another i-pod for my issues. I told her this i-pod worked fine in my last 3 cars. This Entune system is a POS and I wish I had not ordered it as the expensive option it is.

Agreed. Dealer "replaced" mine, still busted. I'm pretty certain they just reset it, wiped it clean and laughed after I picked my truck up.

I had all kinds of troubles with my iPod too. I got a 32 gig flash drive, put my music on that and haven't had a bit of trouble with it. There is a compatibility issue between the Toyota system and iPods that doesn't extend to the flash drive. I wish Toyota would recognize that and deal with it, but honestly, the flash drive is more than adequate for my purposes and it has worked flawlessly for more than a year.

    Cheers,

    John

I've got a 2014 TRD Sport (no Entune or Nav), the radio has been fine since I purchased the truck back in January of this year. In August or September I recall the stereo resetting itself once and no issues since. Today it started resetting every time I tried to using the phone, it accepted the voice command (ding and repeat the command successfully) and then the screen went black and it reset. I tried several times and it repeats the behaviour each time - hopefully it continues to occur consistently so I can demonstrate for the dealer. I noticed that it's not isolated to the phone operation, any voice command (i.e. tune radio to channel 114) results in the same reset sequence.

After reading this thread I feel like asking the dealer to (1) confirm the issue and (2) give me the replacement value of the stock radio in cash to invest in something aftermarket - not that I have any hope that could actually happen!

Good luck with that.. the dealership has zero fault in your stereo not working and no financial liability to pay you a dollar to have it replaced with an aftermarket unit.

Agreed, hence "not that I have any hope that could actually happen." I was using rational logic instead of law...everyone in the supply chain wants to be a blocker, starting with the dealer.

Anyway, I deleted the call and text history on my phone and that solved the issue for now (as suggested on another thread). Frustrating that Toyota has installed a poorly functioning stereo in a vehicle that isn't a budget car....actually beyond that I don't think anyone would expect these issues in a budget stereo either.

Had a ghost in my nav unit since new. It acts up mostly in cold weather, especially below freezing mark. Changes radio channels, locks up, etc.
I called last week and the dealer said bring it in for a new unit. I was told they've had nothing but trouble with them since they switched manufacturers a few years back.
They will replace the complete unit.
Hope this helps anyone with a similar issue.

I've been having issues with my Non-Entune/Non-NAV radio in my '14 resetting. At first, it really had no rhyme or reason. It did it after a month of ownership. About a month ago, I noticed a pattern with the resets. Every time my phone received a text message, the radio would reset. I just need to find some time to sit down with two phones and text my phone while it is connected to the truck and video tape it. If I can get no where with the dealer, then I'll just start looking for a nice aftermarket head unit with Navi.
