I would like to clarify... you are saying the 2wd looks different than the 4x4. You're thinking of a 5 lug. Prerunner (2wd) looks exactly like a TRD 4x4. Both 6 lug. Just so you know.

I think I recall OZ saying, on more than one occasion :blahblah: , that Canada does not get PreRunners; as in no 2WD 6 Luggers in Canada. The ones that are there were imported. IIRC

Not sure if that's still the case, but would explain why OP sees such a difference, he's not seeing any PreRunners for comparison. :notsure:

Tacoma is stock and staying that way, Pickup is TBA as of now.
Always get 4x4, 2wd trucks are pointless. Never understood why they even exist. And coming from someone who had a 4 cylinder, opt for the V6 hands down, you wont regret it. The mileage difference is hardly any different and makes owning the V6 more logical. The 4 cyl is a great motor and will last many miles, but is gutless as a turd hearse. Perfect for those silly 4 cyl 2wd 5 lugs haha. :p

For the record, nearly everyone here that gets a 2wd comes back a few months later regretting not getting 4x4 and or trading up to a 4x4. 2wd is great if all you do is drive on dry, paved roads. But, if you live in anyplace where it snows or gets wet, 4x4 is just the way to go.

I got a 2wd and returned it after a week for a 4wd. No joke I was having nightmares of getting stuck in the desert with no water. I've used 4wd more than I expected.

There you have it OP, proof right there that 2wd owners regret not having 4x4 and get it later on.

Ah my bad, thank you for pointing that out. In Canada I would surely get a 4x4.

I had a2012 4cyl 5spd 4x4 acc cab. Got 19.5 avg with up to 21 on interstate trips. Stock everything
Traded for 2012 dbcb 6 cyl auto. 3in lift 265/75/16 tires. Gets pretty consistent 16.8 - 17.3. I do the math every fill up.
To me the power of the 6 out weighs the mileage of the 4.
You'll have to do the liter conversion math on your own. Obviously my vote is for the 6cy

Sounds like you will definitely want 4x4. Now to the engine question... if you intend to do any serious towing/hauling, get a sixer. If you are more concerned with fuel economy, get a four banger. I've got a 96 2WD, and even though I love it to death, I know that it is extremely limited in its functions because it is a 2WD 2.4L.
