I used to work at a Ford Dealership when they started talking about redesign or discontinuing the Ranger. At the time, when you built a Ranger and F150 with comparable specs, for ~$2k more you could get the F150. One of the biggest problems with the Ranger is that it pretty much went unchanged when it was first released; it was always a few years behind.

IF they would have taken the Explorer Sport Trac and made it a Ranger, it would have helped the Ranger Sales.... but the Explorer Sport Trac was listed under the "Explorer Sales" Also the Sport Trac was requested often, but FORD wouldn't build them and/or couldn't keep up with the demand.

Being a Ford owner for the better part of 30 years and Ranger owner for 23 years with Fords decisions to stop the production is now why I am a Toyota Tacoma owner......

While the interior is nice and stood its test of time it is still outdated and blah. The grey can go.

It would be nice as an option, but I don't see Ford bringing the world-ranger here yet. They're afraid of it hurting F-150 sales, and with the ecoboost, the F-150 doesn't need a little brother to help with CAFE numbers (at least on paper - I hear real world the ecoboost isn't doing much more than 18ish on the hwy if you order the tow package w/3.73's)

I just think there's a big mindset issue to overcome with the American public. Bigger is better, and all that jazz. The small trucks became midsized, but were still looked at as the "less expensive" option, and many people don't buy based on needs or reality, they buy based on perception.

No money, all went to truck...
    Here's my thoughts:
    1. changes will be major
    2. it will look like a smaller tundra
    3. there's no official info on release, only from sketchy auto sources

I agree that the body redesign will be significant. The only legit "spy photos" are of a powertrain mule - anything could be under the hood.

I'm the same. The hilux is ugly. Actually all the foreign small trucks are ugly. The global ranger, amarok, Nissan nirvana. They all look like a suv with a bed. Same goes with the new colorado wouldn't even know it was a truck just looking at the front end.

I'd very much welcome back a true small truck. My 2nd gen barely fits in the garage and I wouldn't want or need anything bigger for what I use my truck for.

i just PRAY they do not molest the tacoma like they did to the Hilux! it looks like Dr. Frankenstein took some random parts from the grave yard, beat them with a hammer and welded them together with a soldering iron! for the love of god that belongs in horror show! and a $0.25 cheap admission horror show at that!

Agreed. I hate the front end of the new 4Runner. It seems all the auto makers are going with that huge, gaping, large-mouth bass-like front end look.
