Hi Guys, new to the site, only had my 06' tacoma 4x4, 4.0 liter 6 speed for about 3 months but I've tried everything to get better fuel mileage. I hear people taking about getting 20mpg+ on a regular basis. In the 3 months I've owed mine the best average I've got is 17/18mpg. I've did a few things to it but nothing seems to really help. New plugs, removed charcoal filter,k&n filter, changed trans, transfer case and both diffs with synthetic fluid(75w-90).i don't drive it like I stole it either, so I'm not sure what else to do, would love to get 20+ mpg! Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Keep it under 2000 rpm when shifting will help . And welcome to TW

People lie about their mileage or believe in their 'scan gauge' instead of dividing the miles by the gallons.

The V-6 is just not a sipper motor... I have an automatic trans. so not exactly the same, but 14-15 around town and 17-20 on the highway are real numbers. You have to keep the RPMs at 2000 tops. Any more and the mpgs will suffer. The 20 mpg comes from flat highway driving with an empty truck, other than me. If you can buy ethanol free gas, that will help, too! I can't out here in the west unless I drive into Mexico. Then I can get 19 mpg driving fast and fully loaded!

Good to know... It's just I have read some fantastic MPG figures from people here, only to find they are quoting off their scan gauge...

My 2007 Auto 4.0L Access cab has gotten 17-18mpg on average since the day I owned it since new.

I have noticed, my truck gets better gas mileage if I take a road trip and travel 40-45mph the whole time. I'll get 20mpg+. Weird... How often do you take a road trip at that speed the whole time?
