Have the chance to buy this tacoma for $2,700. 1999 regular cab 184,000 miles great shape by pictures he's trading it in at a dealership where I work so I have the ability to get everything checked out before if I buy, he's the second owner and by description and pics I think it will be decent for the age and miles. The reason for buying is it is a 4x4 automatic and I have a 2005 pretty net and the winters we have had lately here In WV I will def need it! Opinions on price I could get it for or any opinions greatly appreciated

Why would he do that? OP isn't asking about buying a new one.

Absolutely, get it. That's a fringe benefit you guys who work at dealerships have - you get to buy all the good trades before they put them out on the lot. And with then being able to check it over, it's a no-brainer.

This past March I bought a 2014 Sport. I had a 2003 4D 4wd and a 1993 xtra cab 4wd with 188k miles. The dealer knew I was going to sell the 93 and he advised me to ask $3k but take no less than $2,800. That's why I say get it.

That's a very clean looking rig ... At that price and being able to have it checked out where you work ... Seems an absolute no brainer. Nice score! Enjoy your new truck.

tell the owner you want it and will pay him $100 more then the trade in price and he will jump on it, after all its a free extra $100 for him so why should he care.

if you let it go through the dealer they will add around $2500 to the price or more and you will be paying $5,000 for it.

if the guy knows they are giving him $2700 then tell him you'll give him $2,800 for it or even round it off to $3,000 to seal the deal if he isn't sure.

DO NOT let it get into the dealers hands or you can forget getting it yourself, in fact someone at the dealership with more clout then you will have it in their driveway the next day.

the only way you don't lose this deal is to buy it now and do it without the dealership being involved.
