I broke my rear glass and I'm wondering if I can go from a sliding rear window glass to a solid glass.

Anyone have any experience with this and would the fit be different because of the width of the current glass?

The solid glass is much cheaper than the sliding one.

Depending on what year your truck is, I have a full sliding rear window assembly out of a 2000 for sale. It's dirty but only used 1 week before I put it in the shed back in 2000.

    Located in NC.

Have you called a glass company, they were considerably cheaper than Toyota when I priced a solid rear glass for my double cab. I didn't like the fact that it wasn't tinted, just a light tint like the front windows.

window or solid, it wont make any difference, they both fit.

as mentioned call a local glass repair company and have it replaced, just make sure they use PPG glass (its the generic version of OEM glass) and they will take care of any details like replacing the window seal which I think is the only difference in the two glass, the seal thickness.

I never use the back window and feel its an obstruction to look past in the mirror as well as giving thieves a way into the truck since you can easily push/pry that glass out to get in.

myself, I like that its lightly tinted and would want the solid replacement equally lightly tinted but that's up to you, just don't get dark tinted or you'll never be able to see out of it at night to back up.

Darryle, my truck is a 2001 so I'm not sure if the glass is the same.

I'm in Belize so my options for having a glass company fix it are limited.

If the fit for both the sliding and non sliding is the same I'll probably order a solid glass. Would I need to buy new trimming/rubber seal?

    Thanks a bunch guys.
