Wanted to see who's had experience with these smart devices that the auto insurance companies are using now and what people think about them. Are they too intrusive? Did they help lower your rates?

I switched insurance recently and declined the smart ride program offered by Nationwide and then I get an email telling me they were being sent to me for all our vehicles. Called my agent and was told if I didn't plug them in my rates would go up since I was enrolled in the program. Wtf? They said that they wouldn't hurt my rates but can only help. I drive easy so I'm not worried but my wife and step daughter on the other hand. so just wanted to hear thoughts on this.

BUCKLE UP! It makes it harder for Aliens to pull you out of your Truck.
You were mislead and now you are being victimized. I would file a complaint with your State AG including the names, dates, times and a brief description of what happened.images_952de4f41f3d9245e6b690a18078f1adfa87693a.jpg

I'd love to be a fly on the wall when the Ins agent gets this phone call.

Do not tell the Ins Co. agent you are filing a complaint; leave that as a surprise (everyone loves surprises)

    Don't get mad; get even.

    Good luck!

Not sure who's to blame for that? I did the online quote and it asked me if I wanted to participate in the smart ride program and I said no. Spoke with my agent that I chose and signed up at the rate that was given on the quote. I don't mind so much because I thought about going along with it to try to reduce our rates but was afraid with a 20 yr old on the policy. But I'm just wanting to see others experiences with these devices. To see if they saved or if their rates went up? My wife says I drive like Grandpa and I already have 2 hard accelerations and some hard braking showing. If my rates go up I'll just switch again.
