That is correct; the crawl box goes in between the trans and transfer case with the right adapters. I installed a Marlin 4.7 box in my previous Tacoma and it was great! With a 5 speed, you'll really like the 4.7:1 in the crawl box combined with the stock 2.56:1 of the stock Tacoma transfer case. Stock 2.28:1 crawl box gears are ok with a 5 speed but you'll probably find yourself using double low a lot. On the trail, a single 4.7 case is about perfect and you'd be kinda close to that in double low with a stock geared crawl box. Like you did with the axle ratios, lower (numerically higher) is better  Go 4.7s!

Yeah man I definitely need more slow, everyone kept telling me to slow down but I couldn't go any slower, gotta love that clutch smell.

I've heard that 4.7 is not great for a daily driver is that true? Obviously I know it's not engaged in 2hi but something about the rotating mass. Was That person full of it? Thanks for your input

Yea they say because it spins so damn fast at higher speeds, it can cause heating issues. But honestly...with all the guys I know that have crawl boxes all of them save one I think has the 4.7 gears and never had that issue. Had other little issues but nothing to do with the gears.

    I'd go 4.7 for sure. Plus..12.9 compound ratio...come on..haha

They are full of it. Many many people have 4.7's in the crawl box without issue.

4.7s in the crawl box will bring on the turtle :turtleride: Just don't go with a cheap adapter, I think inchworm has the best on the market at the moment.

Call up Marlin Crawler here in Fresno, Ca or PM me and I'll help. I have always used their adapters for my crawl boxes. I would get the stock chain drive J shift style from an early taco to go behind the crawl box. Use the triple stick to save the cup holders! Even though the J shift aren't push button, you can still go from 2hi to 4hi on the fly up to 40ish mph with the ADD front.

Also, try to find a used crawl box with 4.7s already in it. You might even be able to find a full set up.

I understand the link is old, but it gives you an idea about prices.

    Why haven't I sub'd to this??

Love that rear bumper! Makes me want one so bad!

Quick question do the CBI mounts on the hood hit the windshield at all or come close?

That's pretty much my plan, I talked to marlin maybe 4 months ago and the person I talked to said they were having trouble with their machinist and had no clue when they would be in stock, maybe they have it sorted?

Inchworm is my first choice as of now.

    Good to hear!

There is a call box FS right here on TW for 1600 with 4.7s. Brand new. I'd get it if I had the cash..

Where'd you get the hood lights and how'd you wire them up?

It's the only one I found for $1600, maybe Blackdawg will throw a different link.

that probably is the one he is talking about but I'm pretty sure I would need different adapters and input/output shafts I am 27 spline if not mistaken. seems like it would cost some money and I might as well buy new and ready to go, I'm sure Monte will chime in when hes not working!
