Hey guys. I have a 1996 Tacoma 2.7 4wd. it ha a electric fan instead of a manual fan. the wire come unplugged to the fan and it ran hot. I was going down the road for about 10 minutes and it was fine because of the wind going threw the grill. I stopped and it sat at idle for about 15 minutes and when I got back in I saw the gauge. I cut the truck off and fixed the fan. I cranked back up and let the fan run and the temp dropped back to normal. Question is, should I be worried? I've never abused the truck but I know that 4 cylinders are bad about cracking a head when they get hot.

if you had warped or cracked the head you would notice is missing or running bad so I think you are ok.

I would keep an eye on your cast exhaust manifold vas it may have cracked on you, pull the heat shield and watch for cracks, if you aren't sure if you see a crack or not then wet it then start it and the cracks will be easier to see as it gets hot and the water dries off

Was the gauge in the red? Like he said above overheating can cause a warped head and in turn a torn head gasket.

It's not missing and no water in the oil. I haven't checked the exhaust but I'm not worried about it because I have a header to put on.
