I have been looking to buy a tacoma since 2013 (hence my user name). Now I am looking at a 2015 Tacoma (access cab, 4WD, etc.). I just found out that, for 2016, Toyota will be redesigning the Tacoma (for the third time?). This may be a game-changer for me. There are three aspects of this situation that will determine what I do: First, how will the 2016 differ from the 2015? (I may have to wait until the 2016 Detroit auto show, but any thoughts on the matter will be appreciated). Second, when is the latest that I can special-order a 2015 Tacoma (they don't have what I want in So-Cal). Third, since I don't want to wait forever to get my truck, when is the earliest I can special-order a 2016 Tacoma. I have always liked the lines of the Tacoma. But I understand that, basically, it is an old-style truck. Any information whatsoever should help me in making my decision on when to act, and what year to get. I am anxious into getting into the Tacoma 4WD action, but want to do it in the best manner possible. Thanks for any help.

Hm, don't know answers to all of your questions, but regardless I might try to hold out until the 2016 out. Second gens (which 2015 is a part of) will likely have a larger price drop. But you can at least see what the 2016 will have and then make a decision. I think the 2016s will come out later in the year next year.

Tacoma is stock and staying that way, Pickup is TBA as of now.
Nobody will know until the Detroit auto show what it's going to be. But we know for sure it's a complete re-design with an all new powertrain. I wouldn't get a 2016 personally, first year designs always have weird little problems that need to be ironed out. I'd get a 2015 if it were me, you can probably get a good deal on one once the 2016's come out.

If you want bigger, wait. Nothing gets smaller.

I have a '13. And while I like it, I would have much preferred a 1st gen. But finding one with low miles, well loved and with a rust free frame was near impossible.

And even when you got 2 out of 3, then the price point was in 2nd gen territory.

I held out pulling the trigger until the new Colorado appeared as well. That was a waste of time. :(
