    Hey guys,
So i decided to replace the carrier bearing on my 2005 tacoma preruner, DCSB today. I know that while torquing down the new bearing, to a recommended 150 ft/lbs and then im supposed to back off the nut and torque to 50ft/lb's. But what im having a problem with is i reach the 150ft/lbs and it seems like the bearing isnt seated all the way. When I spin the CB it seems like itswell seated, and the retaining nut is flesh with the threads. I was wondering if there might be something you guys see in these pictures that would be the reason for this, or if it is seated properly and im just worrying for no reason.

    Thanks!

150 pounds to seat it then 50 to hold it. 150 could be at the verge of stripping threads, maybe that's what your feeling in torque wrench. I am assuming as you tighten to the 150 pound mark the nut still feels as it is not stopping.

Those pictures were out of order. the first four are new bearing pictures, and the following 6th one is the old bearing. Do you suggest a better way of torquing it down? because i wiped some grease off and I can still see the shiny metal, where the bearing is supposed to be seated. for it to get to this point it must already be straight, but maybe i need to torque it down harder. sorry this is my first time using a torque wrench. how did you keep the drive shaft from spinning in the vice? Im trying to not bend the shaft, and i have the shaft viced on the welds.

Most shops probably use air gun to seat bearing, most 1/2 drive air guns on low depending on air pressure are less than the 150 mark. What end of the shaft are you working on. You could mount that end in the truck and torque it, unless you have manual trans then you will just turn engine. If its mounted at diff then just set the park brake. put small piece of paper between to ends your trying to mate, if after torqueing the paper is stuck your good.

Judging by the pictures , you are trying to press a new bearing to an old dirty shaft ,
A little emery cloth would really help seating the bearing . Even sand paper and some lube at this point .

Just read that your pics were backwards . regardless , clean and lube will help .

Put the yolk in the vise, it will keep the shaft from spinning via the splines.

thanks for the help guys, in the end, i couldn't get the bearing to seat any farther. Im gonna hold off reinstalling the shaft, and take it to a local shop and have them press the bearing in. Fricken sunday and those limited hours  anyway, yes I did clean the driveshaft splines with the cloth. I then greased the new bearing and the shaft, so it seems like it should have worked fine.. but i may have messed up somewhere when mounting it. have a good one!!!
