Speaker Adapters and Installation Questions

Hello,
I have 2 questions to ask regarding speaker adapters for our truck;

First, I want to make wooden speaker adapters for the front doors and wondering if anyone has a “plan” for me to copy or should I just copy the shape of a Scoshe SAT6?

Second, anyone installed a JL Audio C2 650 speakers in the rear doors? If so, what adapters were used to make them fit and where were the tweeters installed? Responses will be greatly appreciated. Godspeed.

 

Not sure if this is what you are asking but When I put a sound system in my 02 Tundra , i had to make wood adapters/plates for my new speakers and drilled the plates onto the door and it worked well .

 

If you search in the audio/video thread someone has printable templates you can use for fronts. Rears you might have to come up with something.

As for rear tweeters, its not recommended as it throws staging off. But if you want that full audio sound coming from front/rear then mount the tweeters about the same level as the fronts or as close as possible.

What amp are you going to be using to push the speakers?

As for brands I really like Hertz and Focal. I'm not a fan of JL but others will disagree. Stereo is one of those things where each person has an opinion, and a strong one at that, on every product they read about.

Posting your full setup that you currently have or are getting will really help us lead you down the right path. Also, what is your music preference?

Thanks for the response. I'll be pushing all door speakers with an Alpine PDX V9 amp. I like JL audio and have C3s in the front doors right now. The rear doors have 5 1/4 Sony coax. Head unit is Alpine CDE with Alpine power pack. Alpine Type R shallow 10 inch sub powered by Alpine MRX 55 amp for sub augmented by Audio control Epicenter. Both Front and rear doors sound deadened by Dynamat.

I am old. I mostly listen to jazz (the real ones) and 80's. I am just looking to improve what I got presently. Thanks for your time. Godspeed.

Rear fill is not going to solve your problem/ improve your soundstage.
A few things i noted right away- You mostly listen to JAZZZ
Now granted the Pdx is not a bad amp at all, many people like it and use it but Nothing against the PDX v9 or C3s but their not the correct items For your taste in music.
Same goes with the C3's. Ill generalize and say Thats why your looking to " do the rear "

Jazz and classical music Makes or breaks a setup, hell even Celine dion for that matter. Hiphop, rap, R&B, Electo etc are much easier to get sounding right/ good than JAZZ

You need Class AB amp topology,
There's a Variety of Mids adequate for the task as well as amps.

Imo, if you still want rear fill, Use ur current amp and mids, Switch them to the rear. Fade them so they don't overpower. Replace and set up a proper front stage to suite the music you listen to. Also, depending on ur ear, you may need to go to an Active setup to get the most out of your equipment. It may be what your lacking.

 

When I tune stereo's I use classical or jazz cd's because they have a great range of audio to listen too, and typically are mastered very well. Manethon is right, if you can upgrade the amp to class AB technology you'll be very happy.

I've always been a fan of matching my mids/highs from the same manufacture, and same line if possible. It's more of a pet peeve for me. But since you have JL and you are happy, you could go with the JL's in the rear that you mentioned earlier so they are matching. I doubt you'll be disappointed but due note you are paying for the name JL more than anything.

Again, for Jazz, I'd HIGHLY suggest walking away from class D for your mids and highs and moving to class AB technology. Much cleaner signal. When class D came out we always referred to it as "class dirty". It can generate a lot of power in a small chassis, but you sacrifice clarity for compact.

I have that Type R 12 shallow and I run the Alpine PDX m6 (600.1) and it pushes the hell out of my sub. Gain is all the way down. It's a prefect match for the Type R's. If I were in your shoes I'd sell both my amps, get a PDX M6 for the sub (or something similar if you like) and find a nice class AB amp to power your mids/highs. The difference in sound will be night and day.

nice equipment. i'm contemplating a pair of waveguides for my TV/stereo setup, but i'm having a hard time convincing the wife since it would be in our living room. i wish i had an extra room i could dedicate to stereo equipment. some day.

 

jl amp will do you just fine.

 

Nice setup. You're going to need a lot more than better amps and speakers to make your truck sound like that room. Your biggest obstacle is going to be imaging. You will need an audio processor that offers time alignment to remedy the imaging in our truck. Check out the Audison Bit processors.

JL Audio class AB amplifiers are their entry level line. That being said, I would search around other brands for a good class AB amplifier. I use Hertz amps in my setup and I'm very happy with them.

 

Also check out mosconi amps and processors. Very well built and great sound quality with a lot of class ab amps to choose from
