I am a long time Toyota owner and take pride doing my own maintenance. I just bought a 2013 double cab long bed it has 4 k miles on it. truck is like brand new. I love it except one issue.

at 58-67 mph a slight roaring comes from under my feet.... its slight but driving me crazy ... it only does it at 58-67 mph

I have replaced all 4 wheels in an attempt to pinpoint where it is coming from.

I have also had both drivehsafts balanced....

all with no luck... any ideas? and taking it back to the dealer is not an option....many thanks

Most roaring noises that I've heard are either tires or bearings.

thanks for the quick responses ... again this is a slight intermittent roaring .... when it comes to bearings the only thing that haven't changed is the "hanger bearing" that holds the drive shaft up....

I've been having the same issue for months. There's a few write ups on this on TW. Seems people have troubles with the pitch of the two piece drive shaft after putting a lift in it. To fix the problem many of us have turned to placing a spacer on the "hanger bearing" you mentioned. Also known as carrier bearing. I have a leveling kit installed on my taco. 3" up front 1" in the rear. I made my own spacers with 1/4" aluminum plating but was short lived as the aluminum of course wasn't strong enough to hold its shape and support. So I'll need to make some better ones. apparently pro comp makes spacers you can buy. Good luck!

Could be that dang driveshaft. A lot of dudes have had luck with a tom woods double cardan one piece that got rid of the carrier bearing entirely. It's my understanding that many tacos exhibit this symptom, and nothing is "wrong", it's just annoying. Have you considered sound deadening the cab to insulate yourself from the noise? I have a truck with solid motor and trans mounts and deadening the cab makes it bearable to drive, with the music on.

This is what I have assumed ...... Nothing is wrong just faulty design...... Maybe I'll try some insulation to try stop it from comin in cab.....

When a roar is described , I can only think of a lion just before he charges for the zebra:D

Are you hearing the sound under accel and decel at that speed or just under accel ?
Have you tried shutting the truck off in neutral to see if the noise goes away ?
Have you tried tapping your brake pedal to turn the converter clutch off ?

Have you tried 4th gear to see if it makes the same noise as 5th ?
What happens when you steer from right to left ?
My guess is a bad wheel bearing ...watch out for the toads !!

What rpm does it roar at ?

Is the engine hot or cold and will it only happen when hot or cold ?

Just a few additional things to try in an attempt to break the issue down

EDIT . I know you have an auto but look at what this guy did ,,,,, Reducing the noise of the transmission inside the cab with pics ( write up )

Gear cruncher the noise is again heard under accel and decel nut only from 58-67 mph the noise does not go away when shifter into neutral or in 4th gear .... Doesn't matter if engine is hot or cold.....

I will try the tapping of the brake but I am 99 percent sure I have tried that...

It's a very slight roar coming from under the floor board , my gut tells be its a drive shaft issue but can't confirm especially since it has been balanced...

    All comments are appreciated

I've read here a while back that the rubber seal from the hood where it meets the front grill does this noise. The fix is to put a plastic tube inside the rubber to make it harder. To test this claim, put some tape on the hood opening (front side where the rubber gasket is located)and drive your truck; make sure that it is seal properly(use blue tape). Hope this helps.

Have you taken the truck to an aftermarket shop and let them take it for a "FREE" test drive with you in the passenger seat explaining when the sound occurs . I beleive you are going to get all kinds of answers over the keyboard and all of the guys here are trying to help , but theres nothing better than a good technician from a reputable shop taking your truck for a " FREE " spin .

The truck is less than a year old. I would never guess the bearing is failing.

In your experience, how many wheel bearings start to fail at that age?
