    I am wondering if someone has done a write up on changing the fluid in a manual 4.0l. I looked but could not find.

    Its very similar to the diff's. Drain and fill.

    75-90 works well.
    API GL-4 or GL-5

    2 Quarts. (or 2.7 if you have the 5 speed)

    The drain plug is on the bottom towards the rear, the fill plug is on the left side towards the front.

    what brand of oil would you guys recommend?, and is this something that should be very easy to do?

    I heard that there is some synthetic brand that everyone raves about and makes for smoother shifting, but I cant remember what it was.

    Heres what i posted last week. Couple Qts of your preferred
    $30 75w-90 Synthetic Gear Lube - 1 Quart (Pack of 2)
    75w-90. You'll need a cheap pump and hose to refill and a 24mm socket (If I remember correctly). Loosen filler plug on mid section of tranny facing drivers side. Loosen drain plug on bottom of tranny. Drain. Tighten drain plug. pump in oil. Tighten fill plug. Open beer.

    thanks, I like the ending, so two quarts exactly or just till it start spilling out? and is the fill accessible from under the hood or under the vehicle?

    1.9 quarts. If you have a torque wrench, torque the plugs to 27 ft lbs.

    well i just checked and they dont sell redline or amsoil anywhere in the city I live in, GoD DamN! Im gonna c if I can order some from somewhere.

    For those who have done it, did two quarts cover the fill well enough? I'm looking at doing mine here soon.

    The manual says it takes 1.9 quarts. I have 2 quarts of MT90, and I also have some Red Line 75W-90NS. I'd just like to know if 2 quarts of MT90 will definitely cut it, or will I end up short? I can put in a little 75W-90NS if I'm just a bit short I suppose?

    how much is redline mt 90 for you guys? at my local store it's $20, such bs for some damn oil

    I ran just run of the mill synthetic, cost me like $6/qt. That was 10K and no issues what so ever, I change mine every 25K, you don't have too, but in case there is water or contamination it doesnt hurt, change rear diff at the same time.

    @ 52K and need to do trans case and front diff, but that will get done in spring when im under there spraying my frame with bedliner.

    It's super easy tho.

    Either way its a GL-4 which is good for brass syncro's...both are similar in price, and both get good reviews. AWD turbo crowd tends to favor Redline for transmission oil, I have seen some guys post good reviews of Amsoil's MTG. Personally in my 6MT I will use MT90 just cause I had great results with it over 50k miles @ 315hp/330tq (EVO RS).

    If you go Amsoil and plan on using their engine oil become preferred customer for the discount.
