Hi Everyone im very new to this forum, so I apologize in advance if this is post is in the wrong spot. Anyways I recently started to change my own oil and long story short I accidentally drained some transmission fluid the first time. So paranoid about fluid levels in the Tranny I took My Tacoma down to Big O Tires (Like an idiot) and had them do a flush (Like an idiot) and I am afraid they screwed up.... and this is why.:mad:
My Tacoma was down there for 4-5 hours and when I called to check in on progress the guy that answered the phone said "Im sorry we cant do a flush on your transmission because there is no dipstick to check levels, and we have never seen this kind of transmission before" RED FLAG!! So I wasn't very happy that my truck had been down there for 4 hours for them to not call me and tell me that, so I said Ill be down to pick it up and take it to the dealer. When I got there they guy told me that they "Figured it out" and that he was just finishing up. At that point I started to freak out. I should not have paid for the service but I did (Like an Idiot) and when I got home there were some droplets of ATF fluid under my truck. (not sure if they did a messy job or if it was actually leaking, not enough to tell) And now I am experiencing some harder than normal shifting... What do you guys recommend me doing? It was like 160$$ and I just have worry in my head about this whole situation. I was thinking about trying to get a refund and taking it to the dealer. Think its possible?

My money says they did not use the proper fluid. Most likely they filled it up with Dexron-III.

BUCKLE UP! It makes it harder for Aliens to pull you out of your Truck.
Maybe nicely go down to the Police station and file a report. Include the times, dates, locations, the person you spoke with and what was said, briefly tell the story and in point form
1, They (name) couldn't find the dipstick.
2, You told them (name) you were picking it up the truck and taking it to the dealer.
3, They performed the work against your wishes.

Keep your emotions out of it and be polite

Keep the story simple so that "they" cannot contradict your story; in case it gets nasty.

    Good luck!

Call the police?? Really? That is defiantly a person you don't want as a neighbor.
Keeping emotion out of it is good advice though.
Just go down and politely tell them you are unhappy with the service and you think they made a mistake. Get your money back and head to the dealer.
Keep the cops out of it..

Either they put the wrong fluid in or too little or the flush did your tranny in. How many miles? I usually dont recommend flushes but rather fluid changes, sometimes the gunk after so many miles is whats holding your tranny together or by flushing your forcing gunk into the tranny and only making things worse. Many threads on this.

Did they do a complete transmission flush or just a pan drain and fill ?
$160.00 bucks is a reasonable price . Maybe they pulled the transmission pan off before they figured out there was no dipstick
Why not take it back to them and explain to them you beleive the transmission is leaking and have the shop double check the fluid level .
Most shops provide a warranty with their work although taking your truck to the said " Tire shop" would not have been my first choice for servicing the Tacoma A750E transmission.
I will admit that I wouldnt even let the Toyota dealer touch the internals of the A750E.

Here are 3 different procedures for checking the fluid level properly that you could show the shop that did your service .
Fortech created an excellent write up on how to properly check the fluid at home . If you are interested to see if your truck is low , click the link below and Remember that the engine has to be running when you check your fluid .

Here is the PDF from Toyota showing how to fill / check the fluid . Scroll down to page 18 for the details http://www.toyotatundraforum.com/pdf/A750E.pdf

Thanks to all for your advice. My Tacoma has roughly 80,000 miles on it. The invoice says they flushed it and replaced the ATF fluid. The thing that concerns me is that I literally called to check up and they said they could not perform the service and 15 mins later my truck was all done when I got there. I have heard horror stories of transmission flushes and pros and cons to both sides, I originally only wanted the fluid change but they told me the flush service is all they had to offer me??.... This Sucks!! I am going to see if I can get a refund tomorrow. As far as getting the police involved seems a bit overkill. I am just bummed that a simple mistake is costing all this hassle

Earlier in this thread I bet on them using the wrong fluid. If they actually did add fluid what are the odds that a place called Big O's Tire had Toyota WS transmission fluid in stock, especially after telling you they had never seen a current A750E/A750F setup?

You call - they can't perform service and 15 min later your truck is ready?

You paid $160.00 for absolutely nothing. They did not service your vehicle.

As much as I am no fan of dealerships, you need to get your truck into one and explain what's happened.

Oy. Get that fluid flushed asap with genuine Toyota fluid, or your looking at major money. Don't get me started with my Big O stories.
