Was out snowshoeing around Mt. Baker a few days ago; parked my rig just about at the trail head - the remainder of the road was covered in a nice layer of ice..

    Anyways.

Snowshoed a few miles, had just dropped the tailgate to my rig, and a women comes walking up to me.. Start chatting, typical small talk BS. Then two heavily modded Broncos pass by, on their way up the trail.

I'm thinking, "Wow, those are bitchin' rigs"

Hippy MILF exclaims, "Gee, it's like they're legs are broken or something, just ruins the experience.."

As I'm getting into my own heavily modded rig..

    I politely nod.

Driving back down to the road, she's behind me. Spot a tire of to the side of the trail, stop to toss it in the bed.

She stopped and asked if anything was wrong - I explained that I was backtracking to haul that junk spare off to the dump. The look of shock on her face was pretty priceless; amazed that some dumbshit redneck in a lifted rig would even care about such a thing..

Fairly certain that her opinion of our user group had just been shaped for the better.

Back out at the trail on Tuesday, I picked up about 200 fresh 12 gauge shells, some beer cans and a pair of boots.

It was kind of an epiphany thing, as I was driving over all of that shit and thinking to myself "This is horseshit! These assholes come out here and dump - and give shooting sports a bad name.."

Then I realized I could either bitch about it, or take 10 minutes and pick it up.

Just wanted to share this. We've all got trucks. Pack a pair of gloves and some trash bags with ya.

Used to wheel at a mud hole down Ft Myers way. Had junk cars, appliances, trash and crap. Scrap metal went sky high for months. People came in and took the cars and appliances to scrap yards, and we got a group together and picked up the trash. Ended up being a nice clean place, the cops came and kicked everyone out couple months later, bummer.

Good reminder! It always amazes me how people can't even pick up simple things they used in an area.

    Totally agree!

I often stop to pick up trash on trails and whenever I go shooting after all my stuff is picked up I load at least a trash bag of whatever dipshits before me left.

    Or maybe she would?

Interesting story. Right across the road from my work was a consistent dumping ground to the point I would yell at people who would have the balls during broad daylight and back their vehicles up and dump their garbage. Mind you the landfill is literally less than an 1/8 of a mile down the road.

A van and trailer pull up one day and a bunch of teenagers jump out. They begin to pick up all of trash. I am thinking to myself, "what an excellent thing. These kids are learning about protecting the environment."

Towards the end of the day the same van and trailer pulls up and a guy gets out and starts unloading the trash back where they picked it up from. Perplexed, I go over there and ask him what was going on. He looks at me and says,"It's private property so we aren't allowed to remove the trash."
    I was stunned.

Giove you a fuzzy feeling to come out of the wilds carrying a bag of trash. Makes you kinda want to display it to others going in! (as you give their candy wrapper the evil eye)

I've picked up trash quite often when out in the woods. Sometimes I don't have the time, but I try to do what I can. Some years ago my buddy and I were out riding our dirt bikes and an old Chevy pickup occupied by a scraggly looking guy and a couple kids came chugging up the fire road we were on with a bunch of 55 gallon drums filled with trash in the back. We circled around and about 15 min later the truck passed us down the road a ways with the now empty 55 gallon drums in the back. We yelled at the guy about dumping trash in the woods and he sped off, bombing that old truck down the road. I took off and got close enough to get his license number which I called in and reported to the Sheriff's Office when we got back. My buddy and I looked around for the dump site but couldn't find it. People like that make me sick.

Nice work OP. This kind of thing seems to be a no brainer for me. I can't stand to see litter and crap in the woods. I just pick it up and pack it out. It also bugs me when I see people toss out their cigarette butts. The world is NOT an ashtray....

I've hauled more loads to the dump ...dumped while trashing the national forest near which I live. In my front yard right now is a empty bud light case, dragged up by the dogs, and we don't drink that stuff. If I had a dollar for every pickup going off trail or dumping trash I would be a rich man. The irony of the fact that people who brag about wanting to " get back to nature" or "enjoy the forest" are the very ones ruining it. College kids are the worst, coming up to party, next are the off-roaders (sadly) ...hunters and hikers are usually good stewards, unless the hunters are poaching...then they leave the offal in the woods for, you guessed, the dogs to claim. I love the idea of getting the word out, so us off-road folks can get their act together and then we'd just have the college brats to clean up after... :)
