stupid question... so lets see the answers.

    can I replace a 1998 4x4 DLX 2.7l Tacoma enginee with a pre-runner engine that i am pretty sure is the 3.4l?

the pre runner has a auto trany, while i have a manual?

thoughts, ideas, i am thinking about it as the pre-runner engine has less miles, only needs the head gasket replace. while mine (look at the other threads i have) needs more. truck is only 400 dollors... i rather keep my taco then the pre runner.

    again, thoughts?

don't see why not, if you move everything along with the makings of the transplanted engine,,, ie, tranny, computer, wiring harness, and on and on.
    A lot of work.

hate to pee in your punch bowl but swapping to a v6 engine is not very realistic. along with just the engine you need the computers for engine and cruise control and wiring harness for the v6 as well as dash plus motor mounts and exhaust systems and brackets as well as radiator and belts and pulleys. short answer is, have to have a donor truck to replace everything under the hood and truck including larger fuel lines to gas tank so you cant just "swap" to a v6 like that without "massive" work involved. either way you have to buy a v6 "donor" truck to get all the stuff you need for the swap over so its easier to buy a ready to use v6 truck and sell your truck for parts or drop in a running salvage yard engine for $800-$1000 and sell it.

many have thought its no big deal to swap to a v6 when our 4 bangers fail but the reality is its just not very realistic to do it unless you have your own shop and endless spare time for a big project like that.

secondly I wouldn't go assuming anything with that other engine and a simple head gasket leak could easily turn into a money pit needing a new head or full rebuild in the blink of an eye. until that other engine is taken apart and fully estimated what it needs you don't even know (or at least you shouldn't know) if you want that engine yet so if you are going to do this do it with an already fully working good running engine and not one that needs repairs.

not knowing the situation, if you have the option to tear the motor down to diagnose things first then that is you best option to know what you have. you might be best to use that truck just for all the donor parts to make a v6 work in your truck and then go get a good running v6 engine itself from a salvage yard.
