Considering an upgrade to Alpine Type Rs on the 2015 DC w JBL; 6.75 components front, 6.75's rear, and a new shallow mount sub (not alpine necessarily), fat mat.

1). Has anyone done this using existing HU and amp? If so, please describe results.

2). Has anyone upgraded speakers only (other than Alpine type R)? If so, please describe your results.

    Thank you.

Alpine separates are nice improvement over stock but I don't think the stock HU can give enough juice to let the Alpines shine. I did this previously using Alpine Spr 60c and JL audio C2 650 separates but the result is underwhelming. I end up changing the HU to an Alpine 149 bt plus Alpine power pack and the speakers showed their signature sound. Eventually, I added an Alpine shallow sub with Supercrewsound box behind the driver side rear compartment (no modification required, box just fits) powered by Alpine PDX M6 mono amp.

I will tell you that the Alpine separates are darker sounding than the JL audios but the Alpines sounds are soothing compared to a more aggressive JL audio sound.

After all said and done, I think an HU change is the biggest improvement you can do to our stock sound system and at the same time provides you with a limitless option on other components like speakers, subs and processor.

You may not believe this but if you upgrade your fronts, please do so for the rears also, preferably the same speaker brand as the fronts, and you will not believe the overall coherence.

    Godspeed.
