driving along this morning my engine died. just died. electronics and everything still worked phone was being charged everything but the engine. there was no warning. i have gone online to a few forums and have found that sometimes aftermarket lights and electronics and kill the engine and have played and shaken all wires while the engine was on to see if that was the possibility. nothing happened.

only thing i can think now is the possibility of the MAF currently i have a Volant Air intake with RAM scoop. currently the end of it inside the Box for volant has broken off and so has the small hose going from the engine to the Air intake. is there any possibility the engine is dying from this?

and just an added bonus i have driven around on this for awhile and this is the first time it has become an issue.

    thanks for your time guys

I know there is a way to test your alternator but I've never done it before. Mine went out back in 2008 and it made the truck shut off but that was my problem.....cant say 100% that your having the same issue.

I had a similar issue once. At the time the only non-stock electrical part was an Optima battery. I replaced it and haven't had a problem since.

I was driving a rural highway on cruise control and came up onto a town. Took the truck out of cruise control to coast down the new speed limit. After coasting a bit I gave the truck a little bit of gas to maintain my speed and nothing happened. I looked down to see all the warning lights on and nothing for engine rpm. I was able to coast into the sketchiest gas station parking lot I could find. I spent about an hour with a meter checking fuses and making sure I had power for everything but couldn't find a problem. I was finally able to get the engine to turn over but not fire. Messed around with it a little longer before finally calling in AAA for a tow to the nearest dealership. It was after hours, so we dropped the truck in the line for service and I got a hotel room. Next morning while waiting for the service dept to have an opening I decided to go out and try starting it just to see what would happen. Fired right up. No codes, no CEL, nothing. They couldn't find any stored codes and it test drove just fine. I'm still not entirely sure it was the battery, but it hasn't happened since changing it.

I haven't done this in years but to test your alternator you could try loosening off the power supply connector to your battery. Loosen it just enough so you can leave it on but slide it off easily. Start your truck with it on and then pull the power supply of the battery. If your truck shuts off it is a good sign your alternator isn't working properly. If it stays on it's probably your battery.

Just an idea and easy way to check it.

yea but even if it was if it was a bad alternator i would have problems starting it back up. i mean as of right now she literally starts right back up with no issues whatsoever. after talking ive basicly thinking that it has to be the MAF. ive restarted the computer by disconnecting the battery. left it off for roughly 2 3 minutes. recconnected it and drove down to autozone to get some MAF cleaner and some apoxy to seal up the damn air intake since its giving me so many issues. i love volant but this thing is really just falling apart. im thinking of switching over to K and N

Mostly Plastic and power gain was minimal, however, you may want to do a search on what gains 4 bangers are getting.
