bilstein 5100 blown rear shock replacement

Hey,

I have some questions about my bilstein rear shocks. The driver rear shock has blown and oil is leaking down the side of the shock. So I need to replace but having troubles finding the serial number on the bilstein website. The serial number on the shock says "082033 C476 HO". But searching that serial number I cant find anything.

What's the link to the bilstein serial number on the website?

I have 05 Toyota Tacoma trd too.

Lots of places sell bilstein 5100 shocks for tacomas. I got mine at downsouth motorsports by searching for my year and model truck.

 

ok on that page for example there is 3 different heights for the rear.

whats the height id have to use for my truck? I have the adjustable front bilstein 5100 set up to 2.5"

 

The c476 number is Bilsteins old part number. Here is the current part number.

24-186728 would be 0-1.5". would that be enough rear lift for my truck? or do I need the 24-214667 which would be 2-2.5" ?

 

The rear shocks do not provide lift. If your truck is stock use the 0-1.5 shock or if you have added lift to the rear with AAL or blocks etc. get the shock that matches the amount of lift you have. Confirm this with your vendor of choice.

 

Its a Pro-Comp 3 Inch Tacoma Lift Kit with 5100 Bilstein and add a leaf in the rear.

so would RCD BE5-B110-T5 work because that gives 3-4" of lift to the rear?

 

Again the rear shock does not give any lift. You should direct your question to the vendor who responded in this thread. I do not have any lift on the rear of my truck and really can't advise you about what shock you need. I think you're on the right track though.

 

The best method is to remove the shock and cycle the suspension. Measure fully extended (eye to eye) and fully compressed. Subtract compressed from extended to get stroke.
The stock Toyota shocks are short which limits the down travel by about 2". Bilstein seems to have just copied the stock eye to eye resulting in a too short shock not designed to top out like the stock unit. The drivers side goes first because of the suspension design. The passenger will soon follow.
Your aal will increase the eye to eye by about the thickness of the added leafs.
By getting the correct eye to eye and stroke you will gain two inches of down travel over the stock setup.

Are they Bilstein or RDC Blistein that blew out? I ask cuz my new (8 mo.old) rear RDC's are both leaking ??

24-186728 rear shocks. This is my second set . Both sets have developed a leak after just a couple hundred miles. The oil runs down the side of the shock and out from where the boot is zip tied to the shock. But at any rate this is the number they sent me both times for stock height.

 

Yep same as mine.. the RDC's are not doing it. Ive found a Chev truck site and a muscle car site that have threads going that are not happy with the RDC's..Anyone know if they are made in Mex. ? Thanks.

 

Yeah not sure where they are made. It says assembled in USA but that doesn't mean that the parts are made here. When I replace them again I will go with something else.
