I have no clue where to even start with this. I'd like to convert to electric fans so that I can take some stress off of the motor, get rid of the loud noise coming from the fan, and possibly boost my power a little.

Dont bother, its just one more thing to fail and if it does you're not going anywhere.

I did the conversion and it was nothing but issues.. when the electric fan kicks on its 10x louder than stock anyways.

There was 0 MPG or power gains either.

I converted back to stock years ago and I see no reason to modify it again.

from the broken fan clip, so one fell off the track and left me stranded on a trail..........

To the controller not turning on the fans so i overheated in the desert........

to the overall quality of the kit being like a cheap do it yourself junk yard parts list kit to the garbage warranty....

    Absolute Junk product.

The stock fan is thermostatic and free wheels until the temp goes up very efficient and moves more air than the electric fans can. The stock fan has a deep pitch and large diameter.

Homebrew bumpers and sliders, 5100s & Eibachs up front and mutt leaf pack out back, 285s & Wheelers type B, sway bar deleted. Wife's ride: 01 4Runner 4wd sport. Stock with exception of TRD taco coils, and shift kit.
Just another don't bother with electric fans. One of my favorite things about my taco is the clutch fan and individual belt for ac, ps, and alternator. I don't care what book says other stuff is more efficient. I'd rather be able to still get home if something craps out and i have to cut a belt.

Thanks for the education, guys! I've toyed with the idea of this conversion for some time. It's good to know I haven't missed anything and am, in fact, better off without it.

I'm planning to go with an Efan mod simply to be able to kill the fan in water crossing scenarios. I had a stock crank fan turn into a propeller and tear though my radiator during a water crossing back in June. The Taurus fan as well as the early 90's Tbird and Lincoln Mark Vlll are cheap and pretty readily available. For the record I have both sitting collecting dust until I can upgrade my alternator.

I've got efans only because i was having overheating problems in the summer while running trails in low range with the clutch fan. It wasn't pulling enough air to keep the truck running cool. They worked great for that but have given me nothing but problems along the way. I have completely rewired everything with bigger wire because they started pulling more amps, popping fuses and cooking wires. I took apart the control box(because it shorted out and fried the circuit board) and made my own using a relay and the adjustable thermostat out of the box. Now they are pulling so many amps that my winch is almost useless with a heavy pull when they kick on. I'm going to have to replace them very soon. If you are just doing it to gain a little hp or save gas, don't bother. Plus like said above, they are way way louder than stock. I put a switch on mine just so I can kill them when ordering food in drive-throughs lol.

Don't get the adjustable temp fan controllers, just use a set temp switch. Had several of the adjustable's fail on there cut-in setting and nuked 2 other engines in the process.

After my experience I pieced kits together with the proper cut-in and cut-out thermo switch mounted on the thermostat neck.

It also overheated the Derale fan to the point of shattering the brushes in the hoods and cooking the wiring inside. Replacement 16" Tornado Derale is still going strong. No more adjustable temp controls for me.

If you do decide to swap out,,don't throw your old stuff away.
