Hi All - I just wanted to introduce myself as a new Taco owner! I always wanted one, and I kicked myself for getting a 2011 F150 Ecoboost rather than the Tacoma back in 2011. That being said, the wife says the F150 has to go...so I used it as an excuse to buy the Tacoma I always wanted. I put a deposit down yesterday and I'm having it build...should arrive in about 8 weeks.

    Some specs on the truck:

    2015 Tacoma Double Cab 4x4
    Blue Ribbon Metallic
    4.0 V6
6 Speed Manual (Save the Manuals!)
    TRD Offroad Package
    V6 Tow Package
    Entune Audio (No Navigation/App Suite)

    Dealer Add On's:
    TRD Supercharger
    TRD Exhaust
    TRD Short Throw Shifter
    Bed Extender
    Roof Rack
    Bed Mat
    All Weather Floor Mats

After shopping around at a ton of dealers in the Detroit area, best price I could get was $600 below dealer invoice...I thought it was a good deal since I started at $500 above invoice.

Dealer invoice was 31025.60 (which included a BS advertising fee in the tune of $500, which I thought was bogus. No Toyota dealer seems to want to let go of this since it's apart of Invoice), and since I worked them down to $600 below invoice, they wouldn't budge on the $200 dealer administration fee. I don't have an issue with the dealer making a profit, but it shouldn't be excessive if someone is willing to walk in and say "Here's my money, build me a truck".

OTD Price of the base truck without the dealer installed options was about $32,500, which I thought wasn't too bad considering MSRP is $32,650. After researching on the "What did you pay" forms, it seemed like this wasn't too bad of a price...hopefully other members can let me know how I did.

The dealer add ons add up to $7800 after tax (primarily due to the supercharger & labor of install on the other parts using $75 per hour).

Total OTD price is about $40,300  I realize most of you will tell me I'm absolutely crazy, and I realize that's an incredible price to pay for the truck - but these vehicles last forever, and I intend mine to do the same. If I'm going to build my dream truck, I'm going to build it my way, no regrets.

Since the dealer add ons won't be purchased for a few weeks (I'm actually working with them now to see if I can source the parts at TRDparts4u and pay for labor at the dealer) I may have the opportunity to back out of the supercharger if I want to save on costs. On the other hand, it's better to get what I want now before kids come along; I expect to drive this truck 10+ years.

Anyways, this was quite lengthy, but I look forward to participating in the forums.

    Thank you for your welcome!

    Ryan

Realistically, anyone who has the TRD supercharger on their vehicle or other TRD modifications probably paid close to what I'm paying. For the TRD Off Road itself + tax, I think $32,500 is fairly reasonable considering how expensive vehicles are these days. I drove a 2015 Canyon and Sierra on Monday and they are nice vehicles. I will say the Canyon has a modern interior and nice features, but the back seat area felt smaller and my Wife couldn't stop complaining about how uncomfortable the seats were. As far as the engine in the Canyon, it does have plenty of power. However, I drove a Double Cab Tacoma 4x4 V6 manual about a month ago and the power difference seemed negligible (I was actually going in with low expectations considering the low published output figures - needless to say, I'm impressed). The large difference would be the more "modern" look as well as the MPG increase. I will say I was a guinea pig on the Ecoboost F150...and I won't make that mistake again; I know for a fact the Canyon would have been more $$$ as well.

As for the Sierra - I was very impressed. It was a very comfortable truck, great MPG for a 5.3 V8 and had a lot of great features...but I don't need a full size truck and according tot he dealer "they didn't have any truck on the lot for less than 35K OTD".

At the end of the day, I am completely willing to trade the questionability of a first year model (Canyon) and a more modern interior for the proven reliability of the 2nd Gen Tacoma and....Manual Transmission 4x4!

Although I'm sure the 2016 Tacoma will have more bells and whistles, better MPG as well as modernized styling, I'm just too afraid to have another first year model.

I am wondering how much the longevity of the engine will be compromised with the supercharger.

Anyways, if you want a picture of the Tacoma, you'll have to wait a few weeks. I can give you a picture of my toy car :)

Welcome and the engine will last fine as long you don't constantly romp on the gas at every stop light in town. I would also just do maintenance and call it good.

Sounds like a nice truck. If I was getting a new one I would get the same setup you listed!
