I went to a local audio shop and had them build my system. A lot of people on here go with the JL stealth box that has two ten inch subs. That seemed a little expensive to me (plus I wanted ported boxes) so I ended up going with two 8 inch JL micro-subs and a single JL 500.1 amp for both subs.

The subs come in really nice JL ported carpeted boxes with guards over the cone, and they sound really good. They fit behind the seats but I had to have all the plastic back there removed and some minor trimming ( to fit two, not necessary for one). Initially I was skeptical about them, given that they are only 8s, but they can hit pretty damn hard. I listen to all kinds of music and really just could not be happier. Google JL micro-subs and check them out, nothing but good reviews From what I saw.

If you are looking to just get one sub for a little more bass and not really planning on upgrading anything else I think a single micro would be pretty damn good for that. If you really want to step up your sound get two, and look into a four channel amp with new door speakers and an HU and sound deadening. All depends on your budget though!
