I am having to put another engine in my tacoma again and I'm trying to figure out if putting a new engine into my 07 tacoma v6 will be a direct swap.

One engine seller has told me I have to put the same year engine in due to timing issues. Is this a myth or will it be a direct swap. I have looked for info on it but can't seem to find any.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Since you have a DCLB you have the 4.0, another 4.0 will be a direct swap from 09 and before. From 09-11 there was a change in the ECU I think and 12+ added new emissions / vacuum pump thing under the hood so I'm not sure.
