I'm turning to TW because I cannot figure this one out. I apologize for the long post, but wanted to provide all the info that I have.

I bought my 07 DC with about 100k miles. It had Nitto Terra Grapplers in decent shape mounted on Ivan Stewart TRD wheels. After putting about 20k miles on it I decided to replace the Nittos. I went with Cooper Discoverer ATPs and they seemed far lounder and gave more vibration that the Nittos. After about 10k I decided to change the ATPs for Cooper Discoverer CTSs, which is a highway tire, the problem is I'm still getting a lot of road noise.

When having the first set of tires put on, I noticed that the guys at the garage had a very hard tire getting one wheel to break free from the hub. I didn't really think much about it at the time. But when the second set was put on, I noticed that they had the same problem getting one wheel off. Then when they were installing the wheels, they had a hard time getting the wheel on the right rear hub because it was very tight. They used a wire brush to clean it but still basically had to "walk it" onto the hub with the lugs.

Here's the final clue. When I had the ATPs, while turning left at over 40-50 mph, the road noise would go be far less and as soon as I straightened the wheel, it would return. Now, with the tight wheel on the right rear, while driving over 40-50 mph, and turning right, the road noise is greatly reduced even more than before.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I also own a 07 Prerunner. I had yokohama hts, then put on bfg rugged terrain and have significant road noise now. when I turn right the noise quiets down. I first thought it might just be the more aggressive tread on the tire but I have 2 friends with the same tire and their trucks are quiet. I did not watch them install my tires though. Wish I could help. Good luck.

Noise at those speeds that changes or dies out when cornering is very typical of a failed front wheel bearing, which is not uncommon on these trucks. Figuring out which side can be challenging. Bamatoy on here is selling pre-assembled hub bolt-on hub units if you don't have access to a press and wish to repair it yourself and save some dough.

You might check the front wheel bearings. Jack one front tire off the ground grab the tire at 12:00 and 6:00 and try and rock it front to back and then try 3:00 and 9:00 any play means you have a bearing problem, assuming the wheel is tight on the hub.

I had a noise in my front end at only just over 50mph. Otherwise no noise. I thought it was my tires till I jacked the truck and spun both front wheels. The driver side was terrible. =wheel bearing shot. Dust seal wore out letting water and crap in.

This is what I have going on my truck right now. And I was thinking it would probably be wheel bearings. great to see I'm on the right track

Thanks for the replies. After reading some other posts about the problems with the wheel bearings. I agree that may be the problem. I ordered one from Bamatoy yesterday and will update after I install it.

I also just bought a pre-assembled hub/bearing. Seems like the least frustrating way to go. I will also update. Btw My driver side front wheel did have a little play in it but it did seem to roll ok.

Mine had just a little play but created what sounded like a lot of tire noise at a fairly low speed. After disassembly you could see water damage on the bottom of one race creating a bad wear pattern.

No doubt it's bad wheel bearings. The thing that threw me off was I was getting some sound from both sides. I can't believe I didn't check the bearings because I've had this with other trucks. Both sides are bad. I jacked it up today and the driver side is bad because there is some movement, but the passenger side is smoked. It clanks and has a ton of movement. I just ordered up another one preassembled from Bamatoy so hopefully I can replace them both next weekend.

Oh well, it was about time to put new pads on the front anyway. I guess I can knock out both problems at one time.
