If I sell the Mille speakers by themselves first, sure. But those sail panels are built specifically for those tweeters. Trying to get another brand to fit nicely will likely be a crapshoot.

For what it's worth, I listened to a set of 6 1/2 Hertz comps today, and to me, they didn't even compare to the Focal 6 1/2 comps. I know everyone's ears are different, but the Focals were a much more balanced sound. The Hertz were a bit tinny sounding in comparison. Take this with a grain of salt because they were both running just off of a Kenwood deck's 22 RMS power.

well it also depends what series your comparing and if one has a titanium tweeter, or silk and also other factors that won't be as obvious

haha, this was in a store. about 3 o'clock. there was a slight SW breeze, but that probably has no effect as long as you're north of the the equator. :)

Very true, wish I had gotten more specifics. I've looked through so many speaker sets the last few days my eyes are starting to cross.

I believe this was the Hertz set set, if memory serves on the look of the grills.

    And these were the Focals.

The best comp speakers he had in the store were the ~$700 Focal 6.5's.

My main point being I liked the Hertz least of all on the speaker display tower, and they were among the most expensive. There were 7 sets. 3 Focal (all 3 I liked better than the Hertz), an Alpine, a Kenwood Excelon, the Hertz, and Fosgates. And they were all in their "High end" selection, if that helps.

Remember this is just my preference and experience. I think it's a mistake to buy speakers based on reviews solely, you really have to hear them yourself.

It was one of these models, with the Flax cone material, that sounded the best. But honestly, I couldn't see spending that much more for a set, because the difference was marginal in the sense that you probably wouldn't know the difference unless you were switching back and forth between them.

But I suppose that's the life of an "audiophile" - always chasing the unreachable perfection of a live performance.

I can make speakers almost sound any way i want on those sound boards.... ITs by no mean a true indication of what speakers Actually sound like when comparing ;) and i absolutely hate comparing them in that environment.

Secondly, i do agree what your saying about the $ aspect, i only deal with stuff that i know and personally have hands on experience with, love and heard 100s of Competition cars.

For example- in many competition cars, the "sound" is eq to have a totally flat response curve. Many Non audiophiles will absolutely hate it and quite common for that matter.

Titanium tweeters are quite harsh on the ears if you have a low tolerance for them, then silk is the way to go. I don't know what Focal series you are referencing to so i cannot compare what you listened to and find an explanation to your findings

Nice to know, I always assumed silk would sound less harsh versus Titanium since you're talking about cloth vs. metal (if that is indeed an accurate rationalization?)

What is your experience with Aluminum tweeters in comparison? Focal uses an "inverted dome" aluminum tweeter that is supposed to be less directional than conventional domed tweeters.

Just some background info - I don't claim to be an audiophile because I have never had the resources to spend butt loads on equipment, but I do believe in "you get what you pay for" and on the other hand the "law of diminishing returns." However I am a musician so I appreciate and can identify the different nuances in sound.

Generally sick does sound less harsh,
The problem, which is an age long issue when people make recommendations that your ear likes one thing and another setning different. Even more so,
Your placement when listening to different speakers in the store for example and tweeter types.
Some are better on axis than others and some
Are better off axis and some are plain horrible. It also depends on the cross
Over jumper settings and what the cross
    Overs have available
For the variety of settings. I used some
Cdt 07.4x mids and the cross over had a million options to play with.
The only true way to test speakers is to run them active, and give both sets the time to have them exactly how their meant to run
