Not on my truck, it's my cousin's Corolla. Basically he's an idiot, and has had this issue for like a year, the car makes this grinding noise upon startup, and he has never had it checked out. I googled around, and turns out it's a very known issue and there was a TSB out for it, but in 2009. His car is a 2009 model year, and has 68k miles so it's past the warranty period. I called the dealership he bought the car from, and they were really unhelpful. I am wondering if there's any way he can get the TSB covered. I was thinking of calling Toyota directly, but I am not sure if it would do any good.

I had a ball joint TSB done on my Tacoma 2 years ago and mine is a 2002.. clearly out of warranty

Call Toyota and tell them the VIN, They can tell you what to do next.. Usually involves making an appointment to bring the car to your local dealer.

Thanks. That's what I was gonna do. The guy at the dealer was a real a-hole, so I figured the next step was call Toyota directly. They're usually much more helpful.

At the dealer level there is nothing they can do if you are out of warranty except try and sell the repair to you at your cost. By calling Toyota you are asking for goodwill assistance which is a repair completed as a "one time goodwill gesture for a non warrantable repair" which is how we phrase it on the repair order at Lexus. From what I hear, Lexus is much better at offering goodwill assistance than Toyota. If you have no service history at the dealer except warranty work there will probably be no offer or at best a split with you so just be prepared for that. If they offer anything, take it. I have seen Lexus rescind offers because the customer demands more and then they get nothing
