So I have a question about my brakes on my 05 Tacoma. The roads here are slick from some fresh snow we got today and as I was driving home a little bit ago, I noticed a noise coming from my brakes pedal when I pressed on the brake. If I started to slide then I'd hear a noise and feel a vibration in the pedal and then it would be hard to push in making it hard to stop. It literally feels like the ABS is fighting back or complaining. Is this normal? Seems kinda dangerous if it is

It is basically keeping you from locking your brakes up so you wont just slide like your on a sheet of ice. Or something like!

ABS is doing what it is designed to do. Prevent wheel lockup so you can steer. You cannot steer with a slipping tire.

If I lived where it snowed, I can guarantee you I would have it disabled tomorrow.

I usually leave it off all winter, but turn it on sometimes in the summer or when the truck sees any highway speeds. I've had VSC kick in too many times on roads around here to feel safe with it or the ABS.

All these nannies are for people that don't know how to drive. Can't recover from a slide, no concept of brake modulation, just no common sense left in people.

That couldn't be further from the actual truth. ABS is designed for a specific issue:

It performs this task by modulating the brake pressure at a high frequency. The high frequency provides maximum braking with no wheel lockup, which in turn allows continued steering control. There is no way a human foot can modulate the brakes properly or as effectively as the ABS Controller. Unless maybe if you are Robocop ...

And I would like to add: If the reason you are slipping is Ice, There isn't a damn thing you can do ABS or otherwise except tire chains or studded tires.
