    Hi Taco buddies.
I am the proud owner of a 2nd gen Tacoma, it is a base model 4x4 access cab with the 2.7 and a 5 speed. I chose this after testing everything out there. I got behind the wheel and didn't even want to go back to the dealer. I just wanted to keep on going.
I am about to retire and spend most of my life off road camping with my lovely wife. I am joining this forum to exchange ideas about how to improve the old beast without making to many purchase "errors". I hope you can all give a hand with that and as I learn I can share my own idea's. So far I have given the sweetie a new set of tires and rims. I didn't like seeing rust show up on the original steel wheels of my basic Taco, and the wheel rim size didn't allow fitting of the tires I wanted. I am using Nokian Rotiva AT's sized 265/65 HST 17.
The tires are working out pretty well. They have a large enough lug they don't pick up a lot of stones and they are designed to use all year round but are still winter rated. This is great allowing me to avoid having to change my tires twice a year. They are also a 5 ply rated tire so they give a very quiet smooth ride and are still stronger than the passenger type tires that are recommended by Toyota. They are great in the snow, the mud, the gravel and on pavement.
I am currently trying to figure out a few things. ie<- the best system of mounting a winch without breaking the bank, the best camper set up ( we are currently sleeping in our canopy with an outside cook tent) (this is okay but it is a hassle when you want to sleep at a rest stop. All the room gets taken up with stuff)
That pretty much it, the next step is to jack the truck a bit and maybe snorkel as well. We are hoping to attack the Yukon this summer and I don't like to spend too much time on main roads..
If you have any ideas, please feel free to give some feed back
    Cheers
