I replaced the whole ac system on my '05 tacoma 4.0 prerunner, the compressor had locked up on me, costed me around $800 from local auto parts store. This happened around 85k miles then again around 120k. Not sure where the mechanic had purchased the parts for my truck but he only charged me $600 for parts and around $300 for the service.

Are you getting a sudden drop in the rpm gauge or hear the belt squeak when the ac compressor tries to engage because that was what was going on with mine. Just was happy that the second time that I had the parts replaced they were still under warranty.

ouch, 800-900 for just ac comp.... doesnt engage any longer, neighbor who looked at compressor said it was locked up. various dash lights on and headlights not working, pwr door locks, blower mtr, speedo all not working yet fuses appear ok. ac light blinks also.He also said alternator making a noise, sounds like bad bearing on inside of it.

Another thing I noticed on both occasions was that the ac light would be blinking. 800 to 900 from auto parts store not sure what the delearship would charge for parts but I'm pretty sure it was alot more than that, of course remember I did have all the ac components replaced or at least I had all of them replaced because that's what everybody's recommendation was
