its no big deal and anything you don't have to remove the bumper for isn't very strong.

plus the design actually reinforces the rear bumper making it more solid and strong.

look at this one here: http://www.ebay.com/itm/1995-2004-T...Parts_Accessories&hash=item27ee8333a5&vxp=mtr

honestly we are talking about 8 bolts here so that's 4 on frame (2 on each side), 4 on bumper brackets (2 on each side), so why be scared by taking the bumper loose? its not anything you need to readjust, remove bolt put plate in place and replace bolt, there is nothing that can move or get out of adjustment so its going to go back as factory looking and perfect as it was before.

your only other alternative is one that bolts to the bumper itself that will be weaker and not as secure like this one: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Step-Bumper...Parts_Accessories&hash=item27eef333a4&vxp=mtr and in most cases you will still have to take the bumper off the remove the outer chrome bumper cover shell to bolt it or weld it onto the bumper itself

^ agreed. Its very simple. I have a Uhaul one. did it myself with hand tools in about 30min. I just used a short stool to hold the hitch up while I put the bolts in the bracket. very easy to do.

Put this Draw-tite on my truck in 99, and I think its the same one you would use. Once piece, 5500lb gross, 550 max ball weight (underrated). Utilizes the rear bumper bracket holes in the frame. A bit of work to install,,but not crazy hard. have loaded it up above the ratings on it without problems.

Cheaper prices out there than that link for reference. Same part number and hardware.

The one that bolts to the side of the frame is a better design (I put one on my 95.5) but when I got my 2002, I bought a Reese that bolts to the frame and the underside of the bumper. It will work fine.

Because the bumper on my truck was just replaced prior to me buying the truck and it was an aftermarket bumper, I had to screw around with it for a while to get the holes to line up between the bumper and the hitch. However that design is easier to install by yourself than the larger side mount hitch which also requires you to space out the bumper brackets.
