I've been running 5100's set at 2.5" with stock springs and LR UCA's for a few years now. The ride is super harsh and I'm getting tired of it, so I want to change to something that will ride a bit nicer.

I want to maintain 2.5", or even bump up to 3".

Should I keep the 5100's, set them to a lower setting, and get some other coils like 887's to lessen the preload?

Or should I try different struts/coilovers altogether?

I'd rather not spend a ton of money, so if it's just a matter of swapping springs I'd definitely prefer that.

    Any advice?

Lower the spring seat. If the springs are still stock, I would recommend replacing them. Can't say I recommend OME coils on 5100s but people do run them.

$1000 Coilovers that are indefinitely adjustable.

Or $400 or so for replacement struts and springs that have 1 ride setting and maybe 2 useable height adjustments.

I ran 5100 on stock TRD springs for like 6 months.. The ride was horrible.

I ran Icon Coilovers for a year and they weren't the ride I wanted either.

Been running Fox coilovers for like 2 years, Had them revalved to my liking and I love the ride both on and off road.

Worth the money up front as these are completely rebuildable and adjustable in both ride quality and height adjustment.

I am 4x4 so 2.5 inch lift is the max you want to run without messing up your CV's

I have LR UCAs and 5100's with 887's at the lowest setting and I have almost a full 3" and a better ride than before with the stock coils all preloaded.

But nothing will feel as good as appropriately valved coilovers will.

    just my $0.02.

The first link is basically the same thing I'm running now but with Eibach springs instead of the OME 887s. I have no personal experience with them but lots of people run that and seem to like it from what I've heard.

As for the second link, that's basically the same 5100 shock but just has the fake coilover add-on on top of it. Unless you plan on pre-loading your coil to a very specific height, I don't think it's worth it.

    Thanks Shauncho.

So can anybody running the 3" 5100/Eibach setup chime in about ride quality compared to 5100's at 2.5" setting with stock springs?
